A couple of my friends are in various branches of the military, and they have traveled extensively. Additionally, depending on what branch you join and what rank you are, you may not even go to the middle east. My friend is doing recon and is stationed in Asia, while my cousin who is in the marines is in afghanistan. My cousin did travel throughout Europe and was able to travel across the continent. They trained in other countries and were afforded some time to sight see, but it was not like they were on vacation. It all depends on where you enlist and whether or not you specialize.

There are many consulting positions that involve extensive travel, but I would not expect to spend your days wandering the streets of Paris. Working long days in an OKC office park might be a bit more likely.

If you are interested in actually living for long periods of time overseas, I expect that the State Department has such positions.

Do you like the actual experience of travel - going to many different places, not being tied down to a location, working the system with the airlines and hotels - or do you like being a tourist? If the latter, remember that you will be expected to work while traveling if you choose a travel-intensive career.

military wise would it be actual fighting? I’m a little girly girl so keep that in mind. I like shooting and all but I’m not sure I’m cut out for live or die situations. IF it was some type of position that wouldn’t envolove extensive war-zone places I’d be fine with that.

Petroleum engineers get to travel frequently to remote locations around the world like Alaska, the Middle East, Mexico, wherever the oil can be found. They also get to work three weeks and have three weeks off afterward.

Are there any medical related jobs that travel around a lot (like doctors)? And I already know about Doctors Without Borders…just seeing what else is out there.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned nursing. There are job opportunities everywhere. In the military, travel cruises, etc. There’s even such thing as a travel nurse, who typically only works for 3 months at a place to temporarily fulfill a spot that isn’t being covered.

Also consider non-profits like the Red Cross. I know of several people from our local chapter that have enjoyed travel helping others.

I’d go with military above all else. and remember, military careers are not just limited to the shooting. They are military nurses, engineers, mechanics, security specialists, etc.

But if you are not military inclined, i’d say international relations/international business or any travel related career (ie pilot or flight attendant).

The most dangerous jobs in the military are combat arms jobs (infantry, armor, artillery, special forces) and as a girl you don’t have to worry about getting any of those assignments. You could join the military and be a reporter, accountant, nurse, dentist, doctor, engineer, lawyer, supply chain manager, etc and never have to get too far into harm’s way. :)
