What cell phone carriers work well here? (Dorms especially)

Wondering whether or not to keep Sprint or switch... If I by some miracle am accepted lol

verizon works the best, by far.

Yes, Verizon is universally recognized as the best in Williamsburg. I have AT&T which seldom works inside buildings (which helps because you are never interrupted by text messages during class) and even more rarely works inside dorms. While sitting at my desk I get text messages anywhere from 20 minutes to 7 hours late. They may be adding small towers nearby, but I doubt if it will (1) be approved and (2) actually help at all. I’m not sure about Sprint, but I’d assume it is similar to AT&T.

Verizon. daughter never had a problem in any buildings or her dorms. Lives off campus now and still fantastic coverage.

Sprint works pretty well. The issues tend to be in the cores of the buildings - like in the basement of Sadler and the core sections of some dorms. Other than those areas we haven’t had issues.

Go for a campus visit and take your phone with you, check the bars.

i would keep sprint. it works pretty well. i haven’t had any problems unless i’m in a basement. i don’t think it’s worth switching unless you have at&t.

AT&T sucks big time.

Any confirmation on the AT&T coverage mentioned above? If so, does anyone know if AT&T has any plans to improve coverage in the short term?

Child #1 will be attending W&M next year & we have a very old (& pretty good, no longer available, etc.) plan w/ AT&T which I don’t want to give up unless we have to. I am dreading that whole find-a-new-plan-without-feeling-totally-being-ripped-off process. Ugh.

We have AT&T. It worked well in DDs first dorm room, not well in the second (though texting did) and great in this year’s room. During the second year, she just went downstairs if she needed to make calls and had no problems. She’s rarely in her room anyway and has no major problems on the rest of campus.

Many times my son climbed a tree to get a decent (not good) reception near the Botetourt with AT&T. He was not joking.

When I lived in Jefferson this summer, I had no reception with AT&T unless I went out to the side not facing campus. Sometimes I don’t have reception in Swem (probably a good thing.) But otherwise it’s been fine. It worked perfectly in Monroe and Ludwell.

Our daughter lives in Barrett and has AT&T… she claims that she can’t call us because her phone doesn’t work. So I would say AT&T doesn’t work or she just doesn’t like calling home. She does text us and skype us from her room.

My ATT only works outdoors… Thankfully :D
