verizon works pretty well, but is spotty in places, especially rooms. there is one that is better. t-mobile i'm pretty sure (or cingular? is that the same thing?) other techers?

sprint works pretty well for me.

T-mobile is what I have and it's really good. I think the best are verizon and t-mobile (but if you want to go to the east coast, t-mobile isn't that good)

Sprint was always really strong for me.

I had really good reception with Cingular. Hm... seems like everything works well on campus, though nothing works very well when you're driving to/from Los Angeles on the 110 through the hills (for obvious reasons).

Most people use either Verizon or Cingular here, if you want to take advantage of free M2M. (Ben, Cingular != T-Mobile; Cingular == AT&T)

Okay, so clearly T-Mobile, Sprint, and Cingular seem quite good, (probably roughly in that order) with Verizon getting reception in most places but you may have to go outside your room for longer conversations. The reason I keep Verizon is that it is pretty decent everywhere, whereas some of the others get terrible as you go to the east or elsewhere.

(As a result, I spend a good amount of time outside on the phone, what with having a significant other on the other coast. But, unexpected benefit: lots of nice fresh air and good weather!)

shh don't say anything about a significant other, you have to keep the dream alive for all those prefrosh girls that are coming for you next year

(and if you have to, say girlfriend, because a girl i know thought you were about two steps from being too metrosexual to be straight.)

There is someone in Fleming yet more metro than I. Your disbelief notwithstanding. ;-)

I don't disbelieve you, but wouldn't it be funny if, according to Facebook, this person is a queen? :p

We call him Metroman but he is straight. :)

nope it's not me frozen, he's referring to a certain mr. metroman

perhaps we should not speak of metroman so explicitly. he may sic upon you the flock of birds who live in his hair.

I have Cingular with GSM. works fine on both east coast and west coast; i was able to call my friends from prefrosh weekend and get good reception.

I have Cingular, too, and had no problem getting a signal on campus. I didn't try inside dorms, though. Some of the students told us getting signals inside dorms was iffy, so they often walked outside to call.
