I am applying to the University of Toronto Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the St. George Campus-Humanities Program. I have looked all over the internet to find the average GPA for admitted freshman from U.S. High Schools, but all I know is that you usually need at least a 3.2 to be admitted (I called the admissions office). However, I am still worried about my chances for admission: Does anyone think I could get into U of T with a 3.4/4.0 GPA and 1760 SAT? My grades were pretty bad freshman and sophomore year, but improved a lot junior year and 1st semester senior year. So, what do you think my chances of admission are? (I have good scores in my SAT II's, and have 4 AP's on my record). Also, my high school does not rank but it is a very competetive school. (My GPA junior and senior year combined would be about a 3.63/4.0 unweighted.)

*Overall for high school, I have a 3.43/4.0 unweighted. Also, U of T just looks at GPA and SAT scores. Any replies would help. Thanks!

You should get in.
A rep from U of T came to my school and said they recommend a minimum 3.0 GPA and 1700 SAT score, both of which you are above.

Does anybody else have an idea?

Your GPA looks fine. SATs are a little low in my opinion. Depending on which major you chose you will have to complete a supplimental application. If you can fill that out nicely you should be fine. If your major doesn't have a suppliment you still have a pretty good chance, you just won't have the oppurtunity to let them know you.

Alright, thanks so much. Do you know where I could find the supplements? Also, I'm not to worried about the SAT for U of T as they said if you have at least a 1700 you should be fine. Also, I applied under Near East Civilizations-Humanities. Is that hard to get into?

u of t is extremely easy to get into, at least for those in Ontario applying for arts and sciences. not sure about humanities but for life sci i've seen people get in with 75 or little higher. but why would you want to come to u of t...

Im really interested in Middle East Studies, and U of T has a great department for that subject. Plus U of T is a great school, and I like the idea of a collegiate system. So, do you guys think I will make it?

its easy for canadians, but tough for americans
try to break 2000

I can't do that at this point, but I can hope for the best. Does anyone think I will have a tough time getting in?

Anybody else know?

Go ahead and try. I'm applying for their commerse program and you can only do the supplement after you have applied to the school in general. I have no knowledge on how hard it is to get in as an American but if you were a Canadian with those stats you would have a good chance at getting in. Don't make Toronto the only school you apply to but if you are interested in going there you should apply because you do have a pretty good chance at being accepted.

Edit: I also don't know which programs are harder/easier to get into. Their sciences are very well known though so I would guess that these are their toughest areas to get accepted into

...............................

How would my GPA convert to a canadian %? And what chance do I have of getting into University College and Trinity? Plus, does anyone else think I could get in?

trinity is extremely hard to get into. People who get into that is mostly 90% +. and sorry there is no direct way to convert gpa into %. As for me doing the reverse of you i just sent in the mark to school in us and let the school do whatever they want.
oh and u of t is extremely cheap with scholarship even for ontario students.

GPA can only be converted using Z scores. In Alberta I know that 89% is close to a 4.0 however Alberta's % scale is one of the harder ones in Canada. Its impossible to say where 3.4 would lie but it is definitely in the 80s. Trinity is definitely the hardest college to get into, Canadians usually need a 90% +. Trinity carries a certain clout but as far as facilities and students there I think it is a little over rated. During my tour of UofT I wasn't as impressed with Trinity as I was with Victoria (other old christian college) or Innis (newer college). University college is the 3rd easiest to get into I believe. If you put University as your first choice and are accepted to UofT then you will get university for sure. St. Mikes and Woodsworth are also gimmes to get into. Innis, Victoria, and Trinity are the tough ones to get into mostly because they aren't very big. New College is pretty easy to get into as well. Most New college students are engineering students since it's right next to their classes.
