What checking account should I get?

I’ve been looking into Wachovia but I’ve heard that all of the free checking account are really free and you should just get the one that’s most convenient with ATMs and branches. Are Wachovia branches closeby?

Which do you guys recommend?

PNC is by far the most accessible on Penn's campus and in Philadelphia. The nearest branch is 36th and Market, and PNC ATMs are all over campus. They are the only ATMs you will find in dorms, in Houston Hall, etc.

They're also really easy to work with... very friendly, and very helpful to college students who are managing their finances for the first time :)

are there wachovias branches nearby though?

Just get PNC, it's what most people get

Yeah but the PNCs here are rather sparse, so I'd like to get one convenient at both places. anyways i looked it up and a wachovia branch is about a mile and a half away, so it's cool.

nevermind PNC seems to have some affiliation with penn. I think I'll get that.
are there any hidden charges with PNC free checking?

the PNC student checking and savings accounts are excellent...no unnecessary charges.

also, this is something you might want to consider. penn offers direct deposit to PNC customers, helpful if you are on work-study. you can also link your penn card to your PNC accounts.

oh, and a new PNC is opening at 40th and locust i believe next year, near the high rises
