Then why do you continue to click onto this thread and read it? Why do you continue wasting your time posting on this thread if it is stupid? There are lots of threads I think are stupid, and so I don't continue to read them; I stick to the ones I find interesting rather than complaining how stupid a thread is that I have the choice to ignore!

grammy: I think we both have good points, and I like debating this with you, but I kind of want to end this, so this will be my last post:

The only reason I used the examples of drunk driving and drugs (which were a bit of a stretch, I admit) were because they are in the same boat as smoking: something harmful you do to yourself which can cause others harm as well. That is the only argument I can possibly think of to speak out against smoking, and that is why I used those examples.

You're right, drunk driving is illegal: and it's a good thing. Also, smoking in non-designated areas all around the country is illegal during these days: I think in New York, you can't even smoke out on the street. This IS to protect the non-smokers. My mom told me once that in the 1970s, people could smoke in grocery stores, doctor's offices, and other places. You can't complain about smokers infringing on your rights when you actually are the one with more rights in this case.

I understand that many believe second-hand smoke is harmful. That may be the case, but I really haven't seen ANY evidence of it. I know bullets from guns kill people. I know when someone falls off a 3,000 foot cliff, they're probably going to die. But I cannot say that I know someone is going to die from second hand smoke. The evidence is inconclusive. And as far as pregnant mothers smoking, my mom smoked throughout her entire pregnancy for me; I was normal birth weight; and I hate to toot my own horn, but for someone with a rather low self-esteem, I have the numbers to back up posting on these boards. I am an ant among gods, but I don't feel completely inept.

I think we should agree to disagree: The main issue is that I don't think second-hand smoke is dangerous, while you do. It is a difference of opinion, and I think we should probably leave it at that.

omg kids let him have his little poll. get over it. if u dont smoke thats great. dont get so worked up about it. lol

amen.

someee people...

too concerned about other peoples choices.

Sorry anijen, but much of your argument is flawed. First of all, it is not merely opinion that second hand smoke is harmful, there is conclusive evidence. I don't have specific references right this moment, but I could certainly get some. All doctors agree that it is harmful; they disagree on how harmful and some believe it has been over-exagerated, but none with say it is harmless. When it comes to something like a bullet, sure that is very easy to prove. But saying that SSS isn't harmful just because it doesn't have immediate results is tantamount to saying that it is a lie that high refined sugar diets in no way effect the onset of diabetes. It's not like the minute a person eats sugarl, they suddenly have diabetes, but over time, given an unhealthy enough diet, it can happen.
Finally, your argument about your mom smoking during pregnancy is just ridiculous. That's like saying, "Hey, I used to shoot up heroin and I didn't die, therefore heroin can't kill you."
It is very conclusively proven and agreed among ALL experts that smoking during pregnancy can be extremely harmful to babies and HAS resulted in low birth weight, premature babies, deformities, not to mention effects that may not be apparent until later in life such as asthma or an inclination to begin smoking.
Yes, you have a right to your opinion. But you are seriously misinformed and living in the dark ages if you think it is not an extremely dangerous gamble to smoke while pregnant. I for one, who did smoke before I got pregnant, am not so selfish as the risk my baby well-being for my own pleasure. Even if there is a posssibility of the baby turning out fine, there is a possibility of them not, and I feel better safe than sorry when it comes to the well being of my child.

I can't afford cigs. I just get a tree branch and smoke that.

If there is nothing wrong with smoking, then why is it that smokers have to go to their own areas? Because they want to talk to each other? No... It's because it's bad... It pollutes the air... I've seen the cadaver of a smoker and let me tell you, it was disgusting. Unless you want hard lungs, black lungs, stomach cancer, lung cancer, brain cancer, spinal cancer, liver cancer, throat cancer, I don't recommend you smoke. Now tell me that all that is cool when you are lying on your deathbed coughing up your lungs and not able to speak because they had to remove your larynx because the smoke and tar affected it so much.
"ohh look at me... I'm so cool because I am killing myself"
Ohh, and joev, are you too much of a wimp since you are only smoking ultra lights? If you want to be stupid and kill yourself, then smoke the full flavor cigarettes...
I seriously hope each and every tobacco company goes bankrupt

full flavor is nasty

its not about being a wimp

its about preferance

"too concerned about other peoples choices."

So that's the mentality of our society, care for no one else but yourself?

mm yup take it or leave it.

Smoking isn't harmful to society?

Smokers r crazy. To kiss a girl or guy who smokes is like licking the ashtray. Many fit gurls who could have had the opportunity of going out with me thus messed up their chances by being smokers (lol). Seriously, I dont care what anyone thinks, but if ure a smoker, we cant ever make good friends

this reminds me of the threads that end up with

"I love Harry Potter!" (I usually say this one :D)
"OMG you idiot, harry potter is lyk soo gay!" (person 1)
"no it isnt" (person 2)
"you shouldnt say gay!!!" (person 3)
"blahh" (other people)
"well harry potter is stupid" (person 4)
"no its not!!!!" (me again! :D)

and on and on, neither side listens to the other side no matter how good their points are, so its all a waste

oh i dont smoke, but i was just checking out this thread (to avoid doing my homework, why else? lol)
and, i do the same thing as the person who said he/she makes coughing and gagging noises to smokers on the street..lol except im not that rude. i only sort of give them a dirty look and turn away when they SMOKE INTO MY FACE those bums

Ok this is a teen site! You are promoting cigarettes. You're 29(i dont understand why ur here anyway) so you can smoke legally all u want, but keep that to urself honestly you make me totally sick.

Because he's awesome and does anything he damn well wants to. (but you can tell things have changed according to the first page)

Again, thats very nice for him.

I smoke whatever other people smoke. It's what you have to face in secondhand smoking.

Yes i feel you there. Both my parents smoke(around me)..looks like lung cancer for me.
