So I’m a junior in highschool currently and were registering for our classes for next year and I already have AP Gov, AP Lit, AP Macro, Honors Physics, and either AP Calc AB or Stat for next year. However, I have an extra elective open and I didn’t know what class to take. I wanted to take AP Computer Science A but at my school AP CompSci Principles is a prerequisite for CSA but I got approval to skip it so now I’m worried that I won’t do good in that class next year because I won’t know the material. Should I take it and risk getting a B or take a easy class like forensics or something. I had three B’s my sophomore year for AP Lang and AP World and math and I don’t want to get another b and lower my gpa anymore but I also don’t want to seem like a slacker to colleges for taking an easy class. I wanna go to GA Tech for business and it’s a pretty competitive school so I want to show the rigor, especially since everyone else at my school is taking way harder classes and more APs and my school is the third best HS in GA so everybody is super competitive. I took AP Lang and world last year and I’m currently taking AP Enviromental Sci, AP Psych, AP Bio, and Apush. In total, I’ll graduate with 10 APs if i don’t take CompSci. What would you recommend I take for the free slot on my schedule next year? Thanks
Can you not take Comp Sci Principles? Have you talked to the CSA teacher? Already have foreign language through level 4?
I’m not an expert, but a lot of my senior friends tell me to beware of taking a lot of hard classes senior year. College applications take a lot of time… You don’t want to be slaving over your schoolwork and end up with trash essays. Or vice versa.
Also, senioritis is real! If you get poor grades, your acceptance into a collegr might get rescinded.
In my opinion, your course load is plenty rigorous. I don’t think you need that extra stress (unless you really enjoy cs)… but it’s really up to you. I don’t know you personally and I’m definitely not an expert, so you may do really well. Good luck!
You don’t need AP CS A. However if your target university is GTech for business you should take calculus AB (it’ll be expected). Then either take AP CS Principles if you wish or take nothing, it won’t xhange your acceptance results. Have you reached level 3 or 4 in a foreign language?
