I want to see what classes everyone is taking, including the letter of the class (ex. ENGL 111 B) so I can see if we are taking the same class.

I'm taking Econ 200 B, and BB. Math 126 E, and EA, Clas 430 A, and Gen St 199 N

gen st 199 is a ripoff hah. good luck

Edited for language - ED

Math 334
Math 380 (problem solving)
Either math 402 or phys 224, depending on space
Philosophy 433 (Hume)

@NWSkier: Wow! I take it the math 134 (and apparently others) went well.

My DS will also be in Phil 433 this fall. But he has been at UW for two years.

^ Phil 437

Yeah I meant 437. And yes, math 134-5-6 went very well. I will be declaring my math major in the fall! Thanks again for helping me get in! :)

Hey!

I’m taking:
CHEM 142
CLAS 430 (Greek & Roman Mythology)
ENGL 131
HSERV 100

I’m in FIG 98 I added a 3 credit course because my course load is so light…

Is anyone else in a FIG?

@CERyle34 Woo hoo for Greek and Roman Mythology!

@HopingForHope Full-time is full-time and it’s 2 credits for an hour/week class.

@givoau I know Greek and Roman Mythology sounds interesting, I grew up reading the Percy Jackson books and such.

I’m taking GWSS 251, ARCHY 269, and ESS 101

MATH 120, ENGL 131, CHEM 142, and GEN ST 199

Yeah, I’m in a FIG too. Pretty nervous though since I won’t be around with my high school buddies a lot anymore since each of us are taking classes heading toward our major and career.

P.S. What is GEN ST 199 like anyway? I didn’t want to take the class but it was included with the FIG. Also how are the math classes taught? In my high school, it was just a 15-minute lesson then we spend the majority of our class time working on problems from the textbook. Is it similar to that? Because I definitely had a tough time learning from my PreCalc and Calc classes since our teachers kind of had trouble as well so they refer to their “answer textbook.”

@Mewtwo Yay for FIG’s!

Do you have the MWF schedule for your Chemistry lectures with Ginger/Carroll as your prof? So many people are in that lecture, it’s crazy.

The GEN ST classes are mainly supposed to “talk” about how your first year is going. At least, that’s what I was told at A&O. It sucks we have to take an hour out of our day to do it, but oh well.

Oh yeah, I got a MWF Schedule with Ginger. Still finding textbooks for his class though, how about you? My friends have been telling me he’s a pretty tough professor. I’m pretty nervous about starting classes there since some of my grades usually did come from homework and projects.

Anyway, thanks for the information! Yeah, it pretty stinks that it takes an hour away. Does it really take an hour to talk the entire time about how your first year is going? Do we get graded on anything?

P.S. Sorry, still a newbie to this college transition from high school.

I was wondering, what are “Type QZ” courses? Like I had to choose one for General Chemistry and Precalculus. I was a bit unsure of what it really meant, could someone explain it to me?

Example: I got General Chemistry for MWF, and a “QZ” General Chemistry for TTh (Tuesday and Thursday). I always thought QZ stood for quiz, but I wasn’t really sure since I wouldn’t think we would have a quiz every Tuesday and Thursday between classes.

So yeah, what is “QZ?” Since you can’t choose some courses without it.

@Mewtwo Quiz sections are common in larger classes. You will have a smaller section on T/TH generally taught be one of the TA’s where you can discuss things in more depth. I have found them quite helpful (depending on the TA), but they are a nice way to discuss things in a smaller group that you may not feel comfortable discussing during a large lecture.

Oh I see! Alright, thanks.

@Mewtwo I’m with him too. I almost switched down to Chem 120 because the prospects of a bad prof scare me, but I figure it’ll just require a ton of studying. We’ll survive!!

Also, in the “Quiz” section that’s on T/Th, the longer session is a lab I believe.

About the annoying one hour class… It’s 2 credits I believe and I’m sure the “grade” is just participation points. Regardless, it’s annoying. Especially since mine is about a Friday during the afternoon…

Ginger is not a “bad” prof. He’s one of the best. He will keep you on your toes and expect you to work hard, but you’ll learn more from his class than you would from the average chem prof. His exams are hard, but he curves generously.

which language classes are you taking?

@givoau Oh yeah, I heard that too (especially from ratemyprofessor which I know I’m not supposed to be using but I can’t really find that other “official” rating website that the Advising and Orientation told us). Hopefully I’ll survive. It’s too bad you got yours on a Friday though, luckily I got mine on a Monday at 3:00 PM.

@triseradad Oh yeah, I heard about the curves as well. How difficult are the tests exactly? Is it like a bunch of math problems like the ones in the AP Chemistry tests? All you really have to deal in this class would be numbers right? Like “determining the value of the solubility-product constant, number of moles, molar mass, calculate the value, etc.” I remember these stuff in my honors chemistry class (but I lost what equations to use now since it’s been 2 years xD)

Not an incoming freshman (would be a rising junior) but just wanted to jump in to let you all know where you can find the official rating website…go to your MyUW page, click on the “Academics” tab on the left side, then it’s the “Course Evaluation Catalog” under Registration. Personally, I never use it and have always found ratemyprofessor to be more useful…but if you want to use the UW evaluations, that’s where you can find them!
