What classes can you take?

I got accepted in CAS for history, but I also want to take some business classes at Stern. Is that possible, what classes can I take at Stern; ie finance, marketing, management? Also how many classes can I take at stern?

Stern is pretty bad at letting other schools' students in for classes, I've heard. It's something like, you can take up to 16 credits (I think) at Stern, and only in certain courses.

Here's a link to a list from Stern:

<a href="http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/uc/currentstudents/advising.cfm?doc_id=6422%5B/url%5D">http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/uc/currentstudents/advising.cfm?doc_id=6422</a></p>

Stern doesn't let other school kids take classes in Stern. Which is understandable because of how much competitive it is to get in to it. It would be way too crowded. A lot of econ, and math classes, Sternies take together by themselves.

euphoria, you're wrong about that. I know lots of kids in CAS and a few in Tisch that are taking classes in Stern. You're allowed to take up to 16 credits in another NYU college, and lots of kids do it.

Yeah, you can take classes at Stern - the problem is that you might not be able to get in a bunch of them because Stern students have priority in most of them. If you look at ijailin's link, the intro classes at the top shouldn't be a problem, but the other ones... Even Stern kids get locked out of Financial Mgmt, for instance. At most, I've had maybe 5 non-Stern kids in my Stern classes, and most of them were music business majors.

Anyway, if you're in CAS, your adviser has to sign off on your schedule before you register for classes and he/she will be able to give you more accurate information than anyone here.

How many classes is 16 credits? And is it 16 credits/ yr or total 4 years?

16 credits.. is that like 4 classes?

^^what is that, one year one an average schedule? Can you minor anything at stern if you're in cas?

Yeah, approximately 4 classes, but some Stern classes are 3 credits (these tend to be advanced electives though). You can't really minor AT Stern - you can't do a finance minor, for example. However, you can do a pre-business minor at CAS, which includes some classes at Stern.
