What classes do you take?!?

Hi, I just got into college and was wondering what classes does one take as a freshman in college if they want to become a doctor. Like what's the four year plan look like usually??

Please read the threads in the stickied thread at the top of the forum:

Most of your questions will be answered there.

Medical school pre-requisites include:

2 semesters intro bio w/labs
2 semesters gen chem w/labs
2 semesters organic chem w/labs
2 semesters physics with labs
1 semester biochem
1 semester statistics
1 semester ‘college level’ math—calc 1 recommended
1 semester intro psych
1 semester intro sociology
2 semesters English or ‘writing intensive’ courses

Some medical school have additional requirements. (Anatomy & physiology, calc 2, upper level humanities, other courses----see individual medical school admission webpages for specific details.)

^It varies a lot from UG to UG. It is better to talk to current pre-meds at your UG.

Well, what is your major? You would take the req’d courses of your major PLUS the premed prereqs.

First year, you’d likely take:
a year of Biology (for STEM majors)
a year of General Chemistry (for STEM majors)
a semester of psych
a semester of calc
a year of Frosh Comp
plus the first year courses of your major

Second year:
a year of Physics (or Physics w/ Cal)
a year of Ochem
a semester of stats
a semester of sociology
and the courses needed for your major

Third year
biochem
(and if you didn’t take psych and/or sociology earlier, then take now)
Upper division courses of your major

fourth year
the rest of the courses for your major
