What classes should a pre-med student take?

I've looked through the undergraduate programs books, but it didn't state clearly what the pre-med requirements are. I'm interested in top medical schools like washu's med school, and I was wondering what classes are required for me to take. Are there specific classes that I must take, or does it not matter what classes I take? (I'm in art sci btw, if that matters).

All premeds have to take 2 semesters of General Chemistry with labs and 2 semesters of Organic Chemistry with Labs, some basic bio courses, and many schools like to see a couple semesters of calculus. There really aren’t many requirements beyond those, but I am sure some people can add some advice based on their experiences.

You’re first semester will most likely be:

-Gen Chem (chem 111)
-Gen Chem lab (chem 151)
-A calculus class (med schools want calc I, and often like to see up to at least calc II; and I’m pretty sure calc II is a requirement for bio majors, if that’s what you are)

You’ll start bio in the spring, as chem 111 is a pre-req for bio 2960.

^thanks. I’m assuming we can also talk about it with our advisors during orientation?

anyone else???

A year of physics and a year of English are also required. Some require/strongly recommend biochem and statistics, some do not. Your advisors will let you know. You could also get a copy of the MSAR, look up various schools and see what they require/recommend.

Here is a great thread over on the premed topics forum that deals with what premed classes to take -
