What classes should I take if I want to major in political science?

Hi there,

so I want to major in some kind of political science major, but I'm not really sure of what I should take.

There is almost 20 choices at my school involving political science, but even so, I'm not sure of what I should major in college.

I've taken:
Civics and Law
Human Geography
U.S. History

and I'm planning to take
AP European History
AP U.S. Gov and Politics
Economics
Sociology

So what should I major in college? I also like Law and Business and I'm willing to take political science classes as an elective course, so any suggestions about college majors would be super helpful.

Thank you!

What careers are you interested in? If you want a career in politics, it doesn’t matter what you major in. If you’re interested in law or business school, it doesn’t matter what you major in. So if you’re interested in political science for its own sake (I know I am) you can go ahead and major in it, but you can also major in sociology or economics. I feel like economics would be better preparation for either law or business school, and would still give you a strong policy background if you’re interested in a political career.

It might be better to take an AP Economics course (Macroeconomics or Microeconomics) instead of regular economics (if they are offered at your school)

Thanks so much! My school is centered in a very engineering sort of area, so there are lots of economics and engineering courses available.

I think I will take Economics next year, thank you for the suggestions!
