I am a sophomore in hs and I am currently taking precal honors, ap world, chem honors, and english 2., spanish 3 honors and journalism 1. My school offers the ib program. Therefore, next year I will be a full ib candidate and I will take AP Calc AB, APUS, Ib English Hl 1, Physics Hl 1, Spanish SL and business and management HL. Any suggestions on what I should take and what top tier colleges look for.

Take whatever business courses you’re interested in. I took all the business related courses offered at my school…
Business concepts, business law, accounting, marketing, small business and entrepreneurship, ap economics and ap accounting.

Business courses in high school won’t have any college impact–they won’t make your classes any easier, nor will they lighten your workload. What you need to work on are the skills that will help you succeed in college classes, business and otherwise, and in the world of business after that.

So take public speaking if you can, because you will be speaking in college classes-- in class presentations, in seminars, etc.

Hone your writing skills.

Get comfortable with statistics.
Get really comfortable with all kinds of computer skills-- Excel, power point
Etc

Just keep a good GPA with the honors classes and you will be fine. Also throw in some extra curriculur activity.

And honestly I suggest finance or accounting over business admin. There are WAY to many business admin grads than the system can deal with. Finance or accounting set you apart from these grads and makes it easier to find a job as employers know that MOST (not all) business admin course are incredibly easy to pass with a few hours of work a week. Not bashing on any business majors of course but thats my opinion. But keep in mind the top tier courses at top tier schools are going to be FAR harder than an online program.

If you want to get into a certain industry (banking, chem, bio, medical, food, etc) take your undergraduate in an appropriate field than get an MBA, as it will be easier for a chemistry undergraduate with MBA than a full on business undergraduate and MBA to get a job at a pharmaceutical company. assuming grades are the same of course.

In high school there’s not much, other than being exposed to different disciplines which would be helpful in business (and helping you decide what electives to take in college). I would personally recommend taking a computer science class your senior year if your school offers it. It’s good that you’re taking calculus, too. And, like the above poster, I would seriously reconsider getting a degree in business administration.
