What classes should i take?

Hello,

I will be currently attending a CC in the fall and im wondering what classes I should take that is transferable to a UC.

I took my placement test and I recieved english 99 :(, and the math placement test up to statistics....

Any advice? Thanks

what’s English 99? There’s suppressed evidence; you need to give more information in order for any of us to give you guidance.

What CC are you attending? What’s your major?

Try using assist.org or contact a counselor at your school and set an appointment with him/her.

orange coast college

Im contemplating if i should retake the english/math placement again @ another cc to get english 100. Isnt english 99 doesnt give uc credit?

English 101 is probably the transferable English at your school. I’m going to be nice but blunt about this though – judging by your english skills on here, you were placed there for a purpose. They are not trying to sabotage you – you’re just not very good at English. Just take the classes and you won’t regret it.

Each CC has different course names, but I am assuming English 100 is English Composition which is required to transfer as well as Critical Thinking and Writing.

This is a list of the courses I completed in order to transfer and to fulfill IGETC:

Sciences:
-Biological Anthropology
-Intro. to Astronomy with a lab

Foreign Language:

 • 3 semesters of Japanese

English:
-English Composition
-Critical Thinking and Writing

Math:
-Statistics
-Pre-Calculus

Social & Behavioral Sciences:
-Intro. to Psychology
-Sociology
-International Relations

Arts & Humanities:
-Art History
-Intro. to Philosophy
-World Civilizations
-Ethics (pre-req)
-History of Philosophy (pre-req)
-Logic (pre-req)
-World Religions (pre-req)

You should take courses that correspond to the IGETC requirements. I completed many philosophy courses since it is my major, so you do not need to take as many as I did; perhaps an intro to philosophy class would suffice as part of the Humanities requirement, but make sure to validate your course outline with a counselor. Also, I took an extra semester of Japanese when only 2 semesters is imperative.

grey_syntactics: I was placed into Eng. 67 at my CC, and I ended up passing my ap literature exam which consisted of both reading comprehension and writing. Their placements aren’t always on the dot, and if anything, it seemed like they were just trying to get money off of me or something. By virtue of my passing the ap exam, I was put into ENGL 1C, and I aced the course.

and this is a forum, people type the way that’s most relaxing to them. it doesn’t mean they’re bad at english.

edit: Engl 67 is precollegiate english 2 levels down from 1A. 67<68<1A<1C

suwaifo, you’re probably right. But it’s funny how your writing is obviously sharp, while this person’s is just blatantly sloppy. Seriously though, I didn’t mean any offense. I’m just saying that people have a tendency to automatically question placement exams just because they worked against them. These exams are not out to get people, despite the fact that sometimes there are outliers, like suwaifo, that slip through the nets of precision. Anyway, if you do in fact place higher at another cc, definitely save yourself the time and try to jump into a higher English level.

And that’s a good idea by lulubert, I’ll contribute my classes too:

Sciences:
-Physical Geography + Lab
-General Biology

Foreign Language:
-Spanish 2A (for native speakers)
-Spanish 3

English:
-English Composition
-Philosophy Critical Thinking

Math:
-Statistics
-Finite Math (pre-req)

Social & Behavioral Sciences:
-Sociology
-Macro-economics (pre-req)
-Micro-economics (pre-req)

Arts & Humanities:
-Art History
-Intro. to Philosophy
-Comparative Religions of the Far East
-Logic
-Utopian & Dystopian Literature
-Argumentation & Debate

Though I ended up committing to USC, this finished IGETC and got me into Berkeley, SD, SB, etc.

i just transferred out of Orange Coast College. i don’t think that english 99 is UC-transferrable. all i took for english was English 100 & 101 if that helps.

Dang…

Well i guess im taking english 099 then. Waste about 100 dollars on that class eh…

Im good in history, i passed the us history exam.

Im undecided on my major atm, but im guessing somewhere with computers?? I have no clue what to take, but i guess when i do my orientation, the counselor will help me.

thanks for the help
