Hey guys, I'm a freshman at CC planning to apply to UC Berkeley, Cornell, Georgetown, or USC. I am planning on majoring in economics. My EC's are pretty good imo: Venture Capital internship, PWM internship at Morgan Stanley and a few other ones rare for a community college student. I'm a little confused on what club to join, I'm thinking either the economics club or the developers guild. The reason why I'm thinking of joining the developers guild is I want to show my entrepreneur side of me by taking the initiative to create and grow a company before I transfer. Let me know your thoughts on which I should pick.

Pick whichever one interests you the most. That’s really the only answer to this question. Is there any reason that you can’t join both?

I heard that I should just keep my attention on one and try to get a leadership position

It really doesn’t matter. Focus on your grades. You can just fabricate your extracurriculars on your application.

Fabricating ECs is a bad idea. Schools generally don’t ask for verification of your ECs, but they occasionally do. That’s not something you want to get caught up in.

ECs are less crucial for a community college student than they are for high school students, but it is still good to have a few things to at least put in the EC section. Leadership positions are obviously a good thing. Many school clubs have very few or no obligations. Join both clubs and see which one interests you more. Get active in the one that you find more interesting, and just occasionally attend the meetings at the other one.
