What Clubs Did You Do Freshman Year?

What clubs did you do and what college did you go to?

Architecture Club (Still doing)
Engineering Club (2 meetings, left after a couple weeks)
Varsity Jazz Ensemble (Still doing)
Is Cross Country a club? I left it after a season. It was on the club sport interscholastic level I guess
JROTC was an optional extracurricular though more than a club, sort of (Still doing)

Can’t really think of anything else.

I’m a rising high school senior so I don’t know what college I’m going to yet.

I’m a sophomore right now, so no college information yet.

Book Club (still doing this year)
Spanish Club (still doing this year)
Film Club (probably still doing this year if the people don’t harass me like they did last year)
Beta Club (it’s a sophomore club so I was inducted as a freshman but I truly participate this incoming year then you can apply and maybe move up to National Honor Society)

Clubs I dropped:
Environmental Club (attended one meeting, paid the 5 dollar fee and never came back again)
Sisters Club (I was in this club all year, but since the seniors who created it left, I truly doubt anyone is going to save it and even so, I’m not going to continue on with it)
Radio Club (went to two or three meetings…Turns out DJ-ing isn’t my thing and I’m not comfortable defining my music taste…plus I knew no one and it was awkward)
Creative Writing Club (Left after two or three meetings in which I realized the club lacked total organization and had around -2 members)

To be honest, most of the clubs I left/am leaving I am doing so because I didn’t clique with the people and it always felt like a burden to attend each meeting. I think most (overachieving) freshmen attend a bunch of different club meetings to sort out which they enjoy and which aren’t up their alley. I know people get involved in EC’s to make friends, but I’d really advise bringing a friend with you to any EC’s because, at least my school, clubs tend to be cliquey.

I’m a rising junior so idk where I’m going.

Speech and debate (still doing)
Red Cross (still doing)

Dropped:
Leo Club-didn’t know anyone, club didn’t do much anyways
Archery club-only had one meeting, then went MIA

I joined some more stem clubs in sophomore year, so it’s never too late.

Mathletes only–I added more in following years.

–I go to Sacramento State University, but try not to make the correlation between a lack of activities and prestige level.

I didn’t do any. I went to a couple of Scholastic Bowl meetings at the beginning of the year, but I left it because everyone was older than me. I go to Case Western Reserve University.

I didn’t join any clubs freshman year

No clubs for me either (I’m a rising senior) freshman year. I helped instruct and organize a Science Olympiad event but that’s about it. Played JV Baseball and JV Ice Hockey as well.

I’m hoping to go to Cornell, but my more realistic schools that I hope to go to include Penn State, UMD, and Bucknell

Yoga
Dance (all types, mostly jazz/hip hop and swing actually)
Flute Choir
Gay-Straight Alliance
Mock trial
School literary/art magazine
school play (if that counts)

I think that’s it. The only ones I was involved with through senior year were theatre, GSA, mock trial, and the magazine. I ended up doing a lot more later on.

Just Community Service Club, but we did nothing :/

This year as a sophomore I’m going to be co-captain for Yearbook, in leading member in Community Service, and a member in Cross Age Connections. I will also be starting a club second semester that will hopefully fund a school to be built in a rural area by the time this year is over!

I do Volleyball, and if I make it this year I will be on JV, I will be a manager for the boys Volleyball team in the spring, I will also petition to create a girls volleyball town league so girls in my town learn to play before they tryout for the freshman team.

I will be volunteering 40-50 hours in the winter at a local hospital too.

I’m a rising sophomore; I didn’t do many (I’m planning on doing a lot more this year), but here are the ones I did:

Model United Nations (attended one workshop and one of the two conferences my school went to)
Literary Magazine (at middle school; was assistant editor in writing)
Biotech Club

I dropped out of History Club (the topic for National History Day this year sucked; even one of the club officers didn’t do it).

This year, I’ll be doing:
Model United Nations
Literary Magazine
Biotech Club
Neuroscience Club
History Club
Academic Challenge (Science Olympiad, Quiz Bowl, etc.)
Robotics
Colorguard/Winterguard

All I did was Garden club for half of the year. I’m a sophomore now and I’m hoping to do more.

Im a rising sophomore. I did Science Olympiad and Debate Club (probably dropping debate)

Rising senior.

I was only in 2 clubs (book club and a tutoring club) but did a lot of small things. I participated in writing contests (got small awards), did science fair (also small awards), did a summer program before 9th grade (which counts as 9th grade), and small service oriented stuff.

A lot of the clubs you do freshmen year will end up being insignificant by senior year. It’s unrealistic for someone to join 5 clubs freshmen year and stay committed to them until senior year. First of all, as a freshmen you don’t know the reputation of the clubs before you join them. You might end up joining a club that does nothing at all, one that has a ridiculous amount of fees that end up going nowhere, one that has completely different activities than you expected, one that has bad leadership, one that has a terrible sponsor, etc. You also might not develop your interests until later on in high school. I didn’t know I was interested in student government until I was a sophomore. And lastly, a lot of clubs at school that I was interested in were formed later on in high school, so I obviously wasn’t able to join when I was a freshmen. Moral of the story is that even the top applicants don’t do all 10 of their common app activities for 4 years. It’s okay, probably even expected, to not have many EC’s as a freshmen because you’re just getting adjusted to high school. If you’re a rising freshmen, my advice is to explore around and if you can, befriend upperclassmen that can give you advice.

I’m a Junior this year, so I can’t say anything about college.

Clubs Freshman Year:

 1. NCSSSMST (Still a member.)
 2. SECME (Current President)
 3. Art Club (First half of the school year.)
 4. Writer’s Guild (Second half of the school year.)

Jazz Band 2, persian club, drama improv, poi club (its a performing art). symphonic band, dance, and extracurricular orchestra. University of richmond

@awakeningvenus “NCSSSMST” What an initialism, lol.

I’m a sophomore. Last year I did a volunteering club, DECA, some science club, and photography club. This year I’m going to stick to the volunteering and science clubs and probably forgo DECA and photography club as well as try out some new clubs.

@Cosmological‌ Haha, yeah… Not all members even remember what it stands for, but it’s National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools in Math, Science, and Technology.

I’m a freshman, so I’m not sure which of these clubs I’m sticking with.

Project X (volunteering)
Debate
French Club

And then I’m going to these meetings next week:

Environment Club
Academic Team (Science Olympiad, Academic Bowl, stuff like that)
STAND (Socially Together And Naturally Diverse) because some of my friends are doing it and I mean I’m definitely diverse…

I’m most likely sticking with the first three, as well as the last two. I don’t know about Environment Club, but I’m doing it as long as it doesn’t conflict with anything else.
