I'm a senior and I've realized that most of the colleges I've been looking at are over my head, so I was wondering if you can tell me som practical schools I can apply to. I love schools in the city, and I want to major in English so a strong English department would be helpful. I took 9 APs, including AP world, AP psychology, AP chemistry, AP US history, AP Language, and right now I am in AP economics, AP calculus, AP literature, Spanish 5, and AP physics. I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA, and am in the top 12% of my class. I have a 25 ACT score with a 10 essay score. For activities I'm in National Honor Society, debate club, ballet, and Foreign language club. I also do independent Latin study. I wrote a beautiful application essay talking about my Ukrainian heritage. I also have strong interview skills.
I already applied to Columbia University as ED, but I know I'm not getting in. As of now, I'm applying to George Washington, University of Toronto, Georgetown, and NYU but I know none of them will take me. I need to apply to a practical school that will actually accept me with these scores.
If anyone knows of any schools that would take me, please let me know! Thank you!

Where do you live? What schools are other seniors targeting?

How about University of Iowa? It’s one of the highest ranked writing programs in the nation despite being a relatively easy school to get into.

We know a kid there now whose first pick was NYU. He got in but they offered him only 1000 dollars in aid (both his parents retired teachers!) He is a city kid, quirky, into theatre… he worried he wouldn’t fit into Iowa but even he’s surprised at how much he’s loving it. He’s found the writing program fantastic and despite the school being named number one party school in the nation last year, he really hasn’t had any issues. They offered him a lot of money too.

Many seniors are trying to get into NYU and SUNY schools since I live in New York State. Some are trying for Harvard, but most are looking at SUNY Geneseo.
