What college do you want to go to?

I don't mean to be harsh, and you're probably just idealistic at the moment, but there ought to be better reasons for why you want to go to a school than "because it's Ivy League."

I know what you mean. Many people do not know that Ivy League educations are not necessarily the best. Fit is better than prestige.

I do have other reasons for wanting to go to an Ivy.
And as a side comment; why are you insinuating that I have no other reason for attending other then the fact it's an Ivy?
This is not to be answered, and I just put it out there for you two. I do not mean to sound so harsh.

I didn't mean to say that to you. I meant it generally - at my school many people say that they are going to Ivy Leagues. They don't even know if they would get in and they don't even know anything about them. There is not anything wrong with Ivy Leagues and I'm sure that you have other reasons.

OOOOO. Wharton, Harvard, U of Chicago.

Wharton- Legacy
U of Chicago- Going to their high school. Guranteed admission

IBanking when adult. Economics, finance majors in college.

(all of this subject to change)

I forgot, my daughter would also like to add Princeton to her list.

I hope the posters on this thread don't need FA for college. Those schools are pretty cost-y for the most part.

This is a great thread going on
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/492777-swallows-capistrano-financial-aid-myths-realities.html

A little reality injection to this thread, I think.

I believe most of the Ivy's now pay full boat for less than 80K/year income....and they are all quite well endowed, as well, so if you make a bit more than that, you will probably still see aid. It think the more worrisome thing is how many people want to go to an Ivy....no matter how well qualified, it is pretty much the luck of the draw, unless you are nicely hooked!

Really?

(10 chars)

Yea. U of Chicago has a high school called University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. Its a k-12 day school in s-side Chi. If you do well at the high school (which a large number of the students do), you are 95% into the college.

wow i never heard of that, that's interesting

First choice: Amherst. The others I like are Brown, Columbia, NYU, Stanford, Wagner, and The New School.

I like Yale for it's law program.
And this is rather stupid, but when I was 7, I followed my brother to his college visits, and I liked Yale the best (rather than MIT, Harvard, Princeton, and a few other schools in the area) :D
After Yale, it's Princeton (ahahah)

Where did your brother end up going?

University of Pittsburgh- Medical
:]

If want teaching assistants and a university that is NOT focused on its undergraduate program then Harvard is an excellent choice. If you want a demanding Ivy undergraduate liberal arts education choose Princeton or Yale. But if you want to get to know your professors choose a smaller liberal arts college: Williams, Bowdoin, Pomona, Amherst, Colby, Kenyon, W & L, etc.

I would love to go to Princeton. Still looking at more probable options though :P

1) Harvard Law
2) Yale Law

definately aiming for an ivy..but no mit or princeton for me

Definitely MIT, Stanford, Yale or Havard :/

Collide, while my daughter who will be your classmate at Exeter is looking at Harvard/Wharton and Harvard or Stanford Business School, my EPGY OHS daughter is also looking at Yale, Harvard, or Stanford Law.
