What college for history?

I'm looking to major in History preferably at a small to medium sized school. I'm probably looking at 1200-1300 SATS, GPA 3.6-3.7, 6-7 APs, at a competitive Jesuit high school. I'm hopin for Georgetown's SFS for their International History major. Is this possibility unrealistic? Thanks a lot.

Plug Georgetown in as a reach. Most top 60 or so liberal arts schools are excellent choices for History. Mid-size unis like William & Mary, Vanderbilt, Tufts also good, but also reaches for you. Dickinson College might be a good choice.

Bates is a good school and does not require SATs. You have the grades.

Boston University is strong in history.

I dont know much about it, but I would assume College and William and Mary to have strong history programs...

College of William and Mary specializes in Colonial history but isn't spectacular in anything else.

Grad schools are turning out so many history PHDs that almost any school in the country will have a decent history faculty. The larger the school the wider the selection of courses. You do not have to go to a top ten or even a top fifty school to get a devent undergraduate education in history. Choose schools that offer lots of courses in the areas you are interested in: American, Latin American, African-American, ethnic studies; African, Mid-eastern, Asian, etc. More important than the list of courses is the number of faculty members they have who specialize in your areas of interest. Library resources are also very important for a history student, so check that out too.

W&M has a good history program, and you are only a stone throw away from getting in on some real historical action. There are not many campuses where you can uncover history never before seen.
