My first post on here and I'd like to thank everyone prior to replying. I would appreciate every answer
I'm wondering to what Uc's and csu's I have a high chance of getting into.
Im trying to major in Computer engineering Wanting to be It (Information Technology ) to be exact.
Im a senior by the way.

I have a 3.89 GPA. I already have 12 college credits.
My sat Score 1320
Im taking one on the 11th and Im taking my Act's on the 25th
Im from Iraq.
I go to a Military school, so there Im in a leadership role.

I Wrote my personal statements and still editing them.

Can we be honest here. My counselor said I have good grades
I have to pay for applications so I want to limit this

for CSU's
My options I want to apply to

San Diego State
San Jose state
San Francisco state
East Bay
Monterey

and as for Uc's ( my parents said they have no intention of helping me, and said I won't make it.)
UC santa barbara
Uc Santa cruz
Uc Merced
Uc Irvine
Uc Davis

Out of these options which one can i get into, or have a better chance into getting to. Also which are good for my intended major.

Please be honest and tell me the reasons and let me know what i can do,

Are you a US citizen ( in-state California) , Out of state or international? Is your SAT score just Math and Critical Reading or total?

Yes I am a Us citizen. And its my total :/

Your SAT is very low for the UC’s. You would need at least around a 1600 or higher for UCR and UCM. For UCI/UCSB/UCD, you need around an SAT of 1900+.

Your GPA is competitive but EC’s and leadership are not heavily factored into the Cal State applications. Have you calculate your UC/CSU GPA? <a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

For the UC’s, really work on your essays.
If your parents are not willing to help with the UC’s, how do you plan to pay if accepted??

UCSB/UCI/UCD: High Reach
UCSC: Reach
SJSU/UCM/SDSU: Low Reach
SFSU: High Match
CSUMB/CSUEB: Match

How about the ACT’s if i do good?

Also yes my and my counselor counted my gpa and i have 3.89

So basically for the Uc’s only santa cruz is possible everything else is far?
honestly Im just worrying about getting accepted and if i do then i can figure something out

UCM/UCR are possibilities if you can get your SAT around 1600 and ACT around 25. UCSC would be a high match with those scores and for Engineering you need to above the average since Engineering is competitive at all campuses. You didn’t answer the question, how will you pay $30K/year if your parents will not help. Even the CSU’s are around $20K/year if you live on campus. You are only allowed to borrow $5500/year and the rest will be up to your parents. Your first concern should be what you can afford? What’s the point of applying, getting accepted and then no being able to attend due to financial issues…

thats true, does that mean comunity college would be my onlly option if not, just work with a high school degree

Can and/or will your parents contribute toward your college education? Will they fill out the FASFA to determine if you are eligible for financial aid?? You need to have your parents cooperation. Have you calculated your EFC (Expected family contribution)? You do no state what kind of income your parents make. If they make over $150,000, you will get no financial aid from the state other than the $5500 loan.
What Cal State is within commuting distance? If you commute, then your cost would be around $7000 tuition plus books. Is this doable?

I don’t know things my self,
I know we get $48,000 a year for income, ill prolly fill out fafsa and grants with my advisor. Ill prolly commute to the college

If you are planning to commute, then your only options are to your local CSU or community college. You can also look into the transfer programs at the community college and work to save money towards your junior and senior years.

Agree with the above. You will be facing OOS fees because you don’t currently live in the state of California and your parents don’t live here either to pay state taxes, so your CC fees will be expensive. You can apply for financial aid, because you are a citizen, but state aid wont be available to you, only federal aid as a non-state resident.
Your SAT score is too low for computer engineering and those programs are impacted. Many students transfer into the CSU’s and UC’s with a CC transcript.
