Hi,
I will be applying soon and majoring in engineering (probably Aerospace). I live in Washington State. Should I go to University of Washington? or should I go out of state to a better engineering school such as UC Berkley, Texas A&M or Michigan (just some of the schools I could go to). If I go out of state, I would have to take out a lot of student loans, but if I go in state, my parents would pay for it. What should I do?

I would go to University of Washington in your position. It’s a very good school and definitely worth not having any loans to pay off.

So it’s better to go to a slightly worse engineering school and have no debt than go to a better one and have a ton of debt?

I guess it depends on the amount of debt. How much are you thinking?

Let’s weigh this yourself

[1] Go to Berkley, end up with some debts, didn’t like engineering
Now what?
[2] Go to Berkley, end up with some debts and couldn’t find a job at all for a few months to maybe a year (god knows)

vice versa for Washington.

Debts. I am pretty sure if you work very hard and apply for tons of scholarships while studying your debt will be reduced by 10% lol. I just made up that magic number. My point is that both are great schools, and I think that going to Berkeley is quite amazing. First apply, and see what kind of financial aid package you get from the accepted colleges.

University of Washington is a very respectable school, and its proximity to a major aircraft company may be helpful in getting internships and post-graduation jobs for aerospace engineering students and graduates (no long distance travel needed by the company recruiter or the student seeking an internship or job).

^Agree with singh2010 and UCBalumnus, UW all the way.

Thanks guys

Also agree… don’t take on debt if you don’t have to.

If it’s ABET accredited, don’t think twice about it!
Go to University of Washington!
