Hey guys,

I really wanted to get some opinions on where I should apply to college. I live in Illinois and attend a highly ranked high school.

GPA: 3.5/4
Unweighted: 3.72/5
Composite ACT:25
Superscore:26

******At my school on Naviance (Website which says what colleges accept what GPA) it is on the weighted scale.

I really want to attend a good business school and see myself becoming a corporate lawyer in the future. I know my grades aren't top of the line but I think they can get me into some kind of school. I'm willing to leave Illinois and go to any school anywhere in the US.

Thanks,
moneybag121

I assume your handle is what you hope to have in the future, not what you have now. What is your financial situation? That will be a big driver of what choices you have.

Also, I am confused about your GPA. Why is GPA out of 4, but unweighted is out of 5? Colleges only care about your unweighted GPA.

My financial situation is at about a middle point. My family is ready to pay any amount but would like to see around 20k-35k a year. My GPA out of 4 is about a 3.5. With all the honors classes and AP’s I took weighed in I have like a 3.72.

^^ Then 3.72 is your weighted GPA.

oh crap I know see my Mistake

3.5 --Unweighted
3.72 – Weighted

Really sorry guys. Any ideas about schools to attend?

What state do you live in? Your stats sound typical for most public flagships, with a few elite exceptions (e.g. UC Berkeley, UT-Austin, et al). Your state schools will probably be the strongest options. You would have to look to non-selective and test-optional colleges for meaningful merit aid.

I live in Illinois and some probably applying to University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.

Your stats should also get you into DePaul pretty easily, and you might get some aid from them. They are less expensive than many private colleges, furthermore.

I’m honestly not really looking to stay at home. I feel that a city school would cause me to not focus on my academics at my best abilities. Would you guys recommend me applying to University of Miami or Indiana? Both have excellent business schools.

And you think Miami will be a place that will allow you to focus on academics?

What is that supposed to mean Erin’s Dad? I think that Miami of Ohio is an excellent academic establishment that will let me excel in my abilities. Going to DePaul would make me lose cite of school as I’d be in a city. Really would rather not be distracted with the city.

Erin’s Dad can be excused for thinking you meant University of Miami in Florida, as you did not specify (and the one in Ohio is actually called Miami University).

Kelley and Farmer are both fine b-schools, but both would cost more than UofI (a little above that $35K top end of range). UofI and Carlson are within your price range. Kelley is a Wall Street target (though only if you get in to their IB/IM workshops, which, given your test scores, I’m not going to bet on). UofI is a semi-target.

I would rate all 4 above DePaul.

I second UMN-Carlson and Indiana-Kelley.

What about Bentley, Butler, Bryant, Fordham-Gabelli?

U of Miami is in FL, Miami U is in OH. And thus my comment about being distracted in Miami. I live in OH so I’m sensitive to the difference. Miami U is also 100 years older than that upstart down south.

have you run the net price calculators? what are your parents contributing?
