I see… so I guess it really comes down to whether I would risk the higher debt for UW or just stick with Cal Poly. Thank you so much for the insight! I will discuss this with my family and make a decision.
Student visas are for people who want to STUDY in the US. It’s not an immigration visa but a temporary visa and agents are on the lookout for “fake students” who really just want to emigrate/get a job. So, stick to your #1 goal: get a US degree in CS. What happens next is out of your hands and shouldn’t enter the picture for now.
You said you’ve not been studying in Korea for 6 years: have you been studying in the US or in another country?
I’ve been studying in the US. I’ve attended school here since 6th grade.
So you graduated from a California HS and are instate for tuition at cal poly?
Even though I am studying in the US, I’m still a Korean citizen (thus I have an F-1 Visa in order to stay in the US) with my permanent address being in Korea. With that said, I am not considered to be a Cal resident; I have to pay out-of-state tuition or international student tuition if there is a category for it.
At the risk of being accused of not being woke enough, it really is annoying that someone going to high school here in California legally and on a student visa has to pay out of state tuition to attend a California university, while an illegal immigrant who lives in California gets to pay in-state tuition.
