What College Should I go to?

I am currently a junior and am now in the stage where i have to start thinking of where i would want to apply to college. I cant decide at all its too hard of a decision. I have 90% average and now taking pre-calculus and didnt take any AP class's yet but plan on taking AP calculus, AP Bio, and AP Computer Science for my senior year. I live in NYC and want to go a college not near home but not a plane trip away. More like 100-350 miles away. I dont have much extracurriculars but am volunterring in a hospital. I didnt take the SAT's yet but taking it in june and expect to get a 600 in math a 500 in verbal and 480 in writing. I know its not such good marks so also planning on taking the ACT'S.

I want to major in college in a field of math/science. I might want to go pre-med so would want a college that offers that and a variety of math/science related majors. I also plan on going to graduate school and getting a higher degree in whatever i major.

I preferebly want a popular and as much prestigious as possible. I would rather go private over public but willing to go to a state school if its really good for me.

Money isnt a problem as my parents said they will pay for it all. I just want a college thats really good and cant decide, some sites like collegeboard dont really help me in picking a college so im coming here. My guidance counsler told me that i have to start visiting colleges to help choose but i have 2 problems which college to visit and its too long of a drive to just visit a college. So please help me decide.

Villanova might be good. Look at Temple, University of Hartford.

Sorry for the delayed reply and thanks im considering University of Hartford the other colleges dont really interest me. Does anyone have any other colleges that they recommend for me.

your sat scores are bringing you down. check out www.fairtest.org to get a list of schools that dont require sats.

I would suggest you get a hold of the Fiske Guide to the 350 top colleges. You can look for schools in the states you are interested in. The guide will tell you the SAT ranges, the strong departments and give you an idea of the atmosphere of the school. From this you can beginning you can start to narrow down what schools you are most interested in visiting.

There are a large number of liberal arts schools in PA. Many of them will likely have what you are looking for. Allegheny College in northwest PA is strong in math and science and has an excellent pre-med program. It may be too "out of the way" for you. Also look at Dickinson, and Richmond in VA.

TCNJ, SUNY Geneseo, Hobart, St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Muhlenberg

SUNY Stonybrook, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Albany

agree with gellino about SUNY Geneseo, too

"Villanova might be good. Look at Temple, University of Hartford."

Wow? Someone else in the world besides my family who realized how truly underrated Temple is? I must be dreaming.

Seriously though, Temple and Nova are both amazing schools. You could get into Temple with those stats, but you wont get into Nova. Oh, and fyi, Hartford is **** compared to Temple....

Miami University (Ohio) www.muohio.edu

Villanova, Temple, Fairfield, Fordham...

hehe more Temple lovin' =D Makes me happy.

I made a list of schools that are my reach, match, and safety schools tell me what you guys think based on my grades on the top of the thread. If any you think should be added or removed from the list as you think i have no chance on getting in

Reach Schools
1. American University
2. George Washington University
3. Northeastern University
4. Syracuse University
5. Villanova University
6. University of Rochester
7. New York University

Match Schools
1. Fairleigh Dickinson University: Metropolitan Campus
2. Hartwick College
3. Hofstra University
4. Howard University
5. Ithaca College
6. New York Institute of Technology
7. Penn State University Park
8. Quinnipiac University
9. Rochester Institute of Technology

11. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey: New Brunswick/Piscataway Campus
12. State University of New York at Stony Brook
13. Suffolk University

15. University of Rochester
16. Villanova University
17. Temple University

Safety
1. City University of New York: Brooklyn College
2. Penn State Berks

You have URoch, Nova, listed under both. Theyre both def. reaches, as is RIT and PSU. In state, PSU wouldnt be a problem but it's harder OOS.

thanks for that didnt realize are any of the reaches i listed way to hard to get into based on my grades if so i will take them off my list as there is no point applying if i defitnetley cant get in

by the way i have changed the AP's i plan on taking next year to BC Calc, Computer Science AB, Statistics, and enviromental science if that makes a differnce anyways

NYU is going to be too much of a stretch unless your SATs rise a helluva lot. Same with URoch.

Idk dude. I have better SATs and maybe a little worse grades then you. (Number-wise, probably an 86), and i dont think i could get into GW. American (which i visited) is possible. NEU and Cuse are gonna be harder since theyre pretty selective.

i just took the SAT's last week and expect to get about a 650 in math and 520-540 in reading and 490-510 in writing. so its better then wat i expected before i took it if that makes a differnce

Even if you get a 1680, it isnt much of a difference.

ok i guess i will see wat happens i probley will increase my score also the 2nd time i take it but if any body got any comments for me that would be really helpful

I just graduated from American and there is no way you are getting in there...or any one of those other reach schools with those scores. Also more importantly you don't have a full load of AP classes on your schedule throughout high school...signing up for them just for your senior year is not going to make a difference in the eyes of the admissions counselor. Also GW and AU put a lot of weight on substantial extracurricalar activities and community service which it doesn't sound like you've done a lot of. On the bright side though if you want to study math and science American anyway is probably not your best bet. AU is known for Government, International Service and Communications...their math and science departments and liberal arts in general really suffer I can tell you first hand. If you can't get into a top tier med/science school I definitely think a large state school like Penn State that pours TONS of money into their math/science depts and facilities is your better bet even if you have to go to an extension for your first two years.

thanks i appreciate it. Since your saying my reaches are high can you tell me some reaches i can and should go for, as i figured out my mathces just need to find some reaches
