What college/university did you graduate from? If you have any kids, are they going to college?

Hubby and I both went to Syracuse University. S1 just graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (musical theater major) and S2- a HS senior- will go to either Arizona State (Barrett honors) or South Carolina, majoring in business.

Hmmm…wondering what prompted this post…but I’ll respond…both my husband and I are first generation to go to college…parents come over from PT in the 60s/70s. Being first generation to go to college, our parents had no clue about the process or choices…but I was told form early age that I “had to go college”…after all that’s why they came to the US…for better opportunities and to give us a better life…I wasn’t the most motivated in HS…but attended Marymount Univ. my 1st yr and then transferred to JMU, later getting Paralegal Cert from Georgetown. My husband attended Univ. of Md., but his P/T job turned into FT job with good benefits/pension so he never finished his degree, something my parents would never have accepted. My twins are now in 10th grade and unfortunately we are in very hyper competitive NOVA. We are realistic in our goals…I don’t expect Ivy league…my goal is similar to that of my parents…as long as you go to college and know that it’s not where you start, but rather where you end and what you do with it.

So, short answer…yes, they are going to college…whether it starts as CC or 4-yr/transfer, etc., that remains to be seen. They are lucky in that they benefit from having a mom who loves to do research and can help guide them along the way…letting them know of the many options out there.

this is so weird. I’m currently a second-semester freshman at Marymount. I’ve applied to JMU to transfer/ attend the next 3 years at. However, I’m constantly switching between transferring and staying. If you have any advice for me, especially since you were basically in the same position as me please share! I want to leave Marymount due to the lack of culture, however, my because the school is so small there is really no competition. Therefore my resume looks amazing due to all of my involvement. I just don’t know if I should stay or go. @scoutmom2002
