What college would be a good fit for me?

-I'm a rising senior
-I have a 3.5 GPA
-I've taken several college classes and have recieved A's and B's in them
-I'm big in the arts

Honors
-Honor Roll for as long as I can remember
-East Central All District Band member for the past two years
-Nominated and accepted to a local honors band the past year
-Participated in district music contest for the past 3 years
-Participated in state music contest for the past 3 years
-Section leader in school's marching band
-Lead saxophone in marching band, symphonic band, and school's top jazz band.
-Member of school's top two choral groups.
-Only student in school district nominated for Missouri's Fine Arts Academy

Requirements for school
-Must be located in a city or really close to one. I grew up in a medium sized town and hated it. I want to be somewhere where there is never a dull moment.
-Must have really decent music department. Music is my life.
-I would like it to be located in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, northern Arkansas, or eastern Kentucky. My whole family is in southeast Missouri and I'd really like to be close enough to go home for more than just Christmas.
-I want to be in a safe area. I don't want to have to worry about getting jumped all the time.
-Cost needs to be under $30,000 a year.
-Financial aid needs to be available. I know I've looked at several colleges that have claimed to have financial aid, but come to find out you have to give an arm and a leg just to get it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to concentrate on schools that have Marching Bands. :)

Often times they offer scholarships to superior players such as yourself. Also, they are a great way to meet people, travel to away games, have fun, and be part of an elite group.

Good luck to you!

The problem is that you’re not going to find much in terms of being located in a city or near a city. This part of the country isn’t exactly the Megalopolis.

UNT!! University of North Texas. Best Jazz program in the country (ok I know some will try to argue this  Very affordable-about 15K a year for out of state tuition/fees/room and board..consider the Honors College there-you should check it out. They offer a full scholarship for Nat. Merit Finalists also. 35 minutes north of Dallas.

I agree that it will be hard to find a very urban college in that part of the country. That said, what about DePaul, which is in Chicago?
