What college would you advise?

Wut? Making up the difference with loans is not the same thing as there being no difference.
It’s hard enough to make a living as a teacher, without starting out in debt.
AND the less expensive school is the better one for education majors. Case closed.

Can you appeal honors at ISU?

ISU honors would be a no brainer for Education. But iwu for 24k is a really good deal and while it’s not as big a powerhouse for Education as ISU it’s better academically overall. So ISU>IWU for education but IWU>ISU for the rest.
Do you have a preference?

Not sure. Would love to hear your opinions.

How much do you and your parents have to borrow each year to cover the costs at each of these schools? That will make a huge difference in the opinions you get about which school is best for your major.

-Purdue
-IL State
-North Central
-Ohio State
-UW Madison

My daughter went to IWU. But before I get into that… Can you please list your GPA unweighted, act /sat scores. Then can you list out what you actually got from each school in forms of aid /scholarships /loans and state what they are… Like: Pell Grant $3,000. Etc. Everyone is trying to help you but it seems like we only have half the information to do so @bubblytaco. Thx.

In other threads OP said they have a 3.8 GPA and 22 ACT.

yes ^

North Central is crossed off the list

okay as too the financial aid packages, not all were sent in yet

  • UW Madison waiting to see admission decision
  • Ohio waiting on the financial aid package
  • IL State 24k
  • IL Wesleyan 24k
  • Purdue 40k (didn’t appeal yet)

Thank you @austinmshauri and @Knowsstuff

@bubblytaco can you break down ISU, IWU and Purdues offer further? It might be helpful to see what is school grant vs Pell Grant vs?

What do you want to know about IWU and have you visited yet?

I did not qualify for Pell grant. I visited IWU freshman year but can’t remember a lot about it.

Do schedule an overnight visit at both. The vibe would be rather different so you may like one more than the other.
Do you have a preference between ISU and IWU?

I would recommend driving or taking Amtrack to Normal, IL, which is ISU downtown. Check out the campus. Drive /walk /Uber over to IWU and check out the campus. See which one feels better to you.

As already stated IWU is more academic overall. ISU is the better school for education. Almost every teacher I know in public school and very pricey private schools for elementary through high school got their degree from ISU.

Email housing and financial aid and see if they will give you a housing credit. We were given $3,000 just for asking. Also if you can be a R/A that could mean free housing FYI.

Try writing it out like this so it will be clearer to us.

Just with a email?

Yes. Email financial aid, housing and your academic advisor on the same email. Say you would like to go to that college but you still need financial help with doing that and see if they will allow a housing credit.

ALSO… How are you covering the remaining costs?

BTW - thx for breaking it down. It helps us understand your situation.
