What college would you advise?

Can you start there as a freshman?

Are there other universities where your stats would get you merit?

Do you have a way to pay for ISU or IWU “out of pocket”?

You could try to apply to test-optional universities using the NACAC list of colleges that miscalculated yield in case some end up cheaper, but you need to know how much your parents can commit to paying each month toward your college.

Just a FYI. Because of this poster I drove around North Central and it’s a nice campus. I didn’t realize it’s only like 2,900 students. The downtown area is an amazing large downtown. If he can pay cleanly this at this time might be his best option but saying that COD, College of DuPage is not your typical community College. If it’s that much cheaper just might make sense to get the basic classes out of the way…

Okay I will look at college of dupage.

@knowstuff, how is Dupage CC atypical?

Okay I will look at college of dupage. How do you guys feel about Beloit college?

Beloit is an EXCELLENT university that meets 96% need. Have you run the NPC? Been admitted?

Yes I received 20k

My daughter’s at Beloit. Great college. She transferred from IWU to there and loves it.

Why did she transfer if you mind me asking?

They couldn’t support her major which is cultural anthropology with a theater and polysci minor. Beloit is known strongly for their anthropology department.

Would Illinois State be worth attending if I decide not to go into teaching? Right now I am strongly considering public policy and law.

$20,000 in aid isn’t enough for you to afford Beloit.

No longer going to do teaching. Going to be a lawyer.

@bubblytaco

If you plan to go to law school…you don’t want a nickel of undergraduate debt. While there is some merit aid for law school…most students pay with loans, loans and more loans.

The job market for lawyers is not terrific right now.

Oh…and many law schools will continue to require your parent financials for consideration for financial aid.

Then choose the absolutely cheapest school, whichever it is.

Agree

Officially committed to community college!!! Thank you for your help :heart:. Making a decision is with both your head and heart and I feel like you guys helped me through it. I will for sure seek out these schools after the 2 years, but I will take the cheaper route.

How did you decide?
Did you choose a specific community college - with an honors program for instance or a partnership with ISU?

@bubblytaco

When you get to the community college, seek out the transfer advisor. Find out which four year colleges have articulation agreements with the CC. This person should be able to help you in terms of course selections to optimize your CC experience and transfer options.

Good luck to you.

Thank you
