I would never go to any of the really conservative christian schools.

I would NEVER go to the University of Richmond. It’s a fine institution, but I have this weird aversion to people choosing to go there from where I live (tri-state); it’s essentially the same academic experience as many LAC’s near us but the only difference is that it’s warmer and prettier and on a little pond with a gazebo thing on it, and it’s a very “country club” setting and the tuition is steep. It just feels like the bare bones of a great education, but dressed up and with a higher price tag. I’d go to Rutgers instead and probably find just as much substance and way more diversity, without all the little decorations added on. Of course, UR is not the only school that fits this mold for me (and some might say that UPenn is a dressed-up waste of money as well but that’s a whole other leg of the conversation…).

I would also never go to Bob Jones or anything similar.

Jerry Falwell’s college, Liberty University.

I would NEVER EVER go to a university with any kind of religious affiliation.

cough Notre Dame
cough BC

I would never go to a college that doesn’t value free speech, specifically colleges that allow radicals to disrupt speakers or where professors humiliate students with whom they disagree.

I’d rather not name names, it’s seems like a needlessly hateful thing to do in this context.

You just wrote off almost every respectable non-Ivy private school. They don’t want you anyway. (jk)

I just remembered, BYU because the rules sound horrible

I would never go to an Ivy because of the academic book-worm, “Ivy League” title that draws in certain students. Kids that go there are a major turn-off. Every university attracts different personalities, but for me, I can’t stand most that go to Ivys. Don’t get me wrong though, they are great institutions for those who want to learn more and more and more till their brains explode from added stress for no reason.
Call me immature, but I actually want to enjoy college.

I would never go to BYU because of the aforementioned strict rules, UMass because my entire high school goes there and I don’t like the campus, or any LAC because of the typically lessened international recognition and small hands-on atmosphere. Am I the only person who doesn’t mind/likes large lectures?

“Ball State university”
Something about a school named "ball"s just doesn’t appeal to me. =/

Harvard. Way too much cultural baggage, nor is it a good fit for me.

Bob Jones University

on June 12, 1969, at the Harvard commencement ceremony President Nathan Pusey delivered his time-honored welcoming of the graduates to “the company of educated men,” and hundreds of seniors rose from their folding chairs, raised their fists in defiance, and walked out.

so what do you have to say to that my friends.

I’ll try to make this list short:

-schools in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Hawaii, and Alaska
-schools with no bizz major
-state schools OOS (aka: out of California)
-suitcase schools
-granola schools
-activistic schools
-nerd / competitive / brainiac schools
-schools that require chapel attendance
-rural party schools
-drug rep schools
-schools that are unsafe off-campus
-schools with less than 50% whites

About the states: I’m not too into their weather / or they rub me the wrong way (Hawaii). Some states with weather I don’t care for I left out (Pennsylvania, Michigan, etc) because I have friends & family there that I’d be happy to be able to visit while in college.

^ You’d hate every college.

Minnesota, I heard it’s way too cold.

As a Tar Heel, I can say that I would never in a million years consider going to Duke. I prefer cheering on sports teams that actually win things.

I am surprised to see that it took so many posts before Duke was mentioned… ;)

It is usually on the top of the “overrated” school lists. I still have no idea why.
And my other kid graduated from there…:D

“^ You’d hate every college.”

Nope.

“Minnesota, I heard it’s way too cold.”

Yeah… it’s freezing. But their winter break is like a month long, so assuming you don’t live there, you can escape a month of the worst weather.
