What college would you NEVER go to and why?

small universities or colleges such as Mudd, Williams, Dartmouth, Brown and the like. I can imagine the social scene at those colleges is boring and superficial.

UCI, too many fobs there

any religious school.

Any school whose boosters call it the “The Harvard of __________” (except for the actual Harvard).

Any school in the south.

^^^^ HERE HERE!! I live in the south and even though there’s the HOPE scholarship… no. Georgia Southern University NEVER.

The Hope is great but only good for instate schools. The school would be worth going to in Georgia is UGA and GA Tech. You do get money if you happen to go to Emory or another private school. I wouldn’t go to Georgia Southern either, but wouldn’t want to go to any school in Georgia. I don’t hate it, but not many opportunities for what I want to do.

I would never go to:

-Any school in Illinois other than U of C or Northwestern
-Any school which is smaller than my high school (2500)
-Any school in the South
-Any school that is 90%+ white
-Any religious school
-Any school near crackhouses (UPENN)

A school that funployee would go to

I’d never attend UIUC. This is despite the fact that I could probably reacquire Illinois residency because my parents still live there.

I attended there for a year as an undergraduate, and as such have firsthand knowledge about UIUC. I didn’t like the overall environment on campus at all. The Greek system has an excessive influence on campus. Socially, it was cliquey, divisive and not inclusive at all. The different groups on campus don’t generally get along with each other. I transferred out despite having earned a 3.5 GPA.

Later, I needed to take some undergraduate courses to prepare for graduate school. I didn’t even apply to UIUC. There wasn’t a reason to, financially or otherwise. At McGill, where I was eventually admitted, the tuition was approximately the same as UIUC despite the fact that I was in-state for UIUC and International for McGill. My safety was to take the necessary classes at one of the UC’s through its Extension program. FWIW, this UC is ranked higher than UIUC in USNW&R. And surprisingly, there would not have been an out-of-state surcharge for the Extension program. Also, at this time, it’s only slightly more expensive for an Illinois resident to attend Minnesota or any of the SUNY schools.

As someone who’s currently planning to go back to school, UIUC still isn’t one of the universities I’m considering.

I also personally wouldn’t consider:

 • Schools which are truly weak academically.
 • Schools with a strong religious component.

^^ i hate when people try to correct someones spelling. shut up.

Any college in the Northeast or California. :)

AnyaAres,

I think you meant to write, “I hate when people try to correct someone’s spelling. Shut up.”

Carry on.

Any school that has vendors at graduation selling OBAMA 08 hats, t-shirts, stickers, keychains, and buttons…(yes this really happened! lmao)

Any school that has dorm curfews (I didn’t have a curfew growing up and I most def wouldn’t have one in college!)

Btw, is it true that they call UCI “University of Chinese Immigrants” and UCLA “University of Caucasians Lost among Asians” ?!

^^^^…and Dukies wonder why they aren’t loved on these boards.

People are mentioning UCI, and I have heard the saying, so I wanted to know if it’s true. Anything wrong with asking?!

Villanova because my parents attended St. Joe’s (arch rivals)and I have been taught my whole life to hate them (except for Brian Westbrook).

Notre Dame. It is in so many ways the antithesis of my ideal college.

I would also add American University, the name itself isn’t that great. I prefer a college which doesn’t have a name like The University of Alabama or Georgia State. A name like Bennington or Sarah Lawrence seems a lot more unique to me.

Liberty U: I don’t understand why so many of peers want to go here, then I remember they’re Christians…

The rules there are crazy (in my very liberal opinion).

-They still have a dress code, don’t they? (my source is a little outdated [2006])

No short skirts or jeans with holes/rips/tears or stomachs showing. And guys can’t be anything but the “proper man”…no long hair or piercings

-No R-rated movies or M-rated games
-They have curfews.
-Room checks…
-And of course, no PDA or any display of affection other than hand-holding…I kinda laughed at the whole “after dusk one should not be with a member of the opposite sex in a unlighted area”

Oh, and all those ludicrous fines?

Absolutely ridiculous…

All in all, they seek to prepare students for a “Christ-honoring” lifestyle.

No offense to Christians or anything, but this is not my type of place. >>

I’ve also heard a few not-so-savory thing about the college in general, particularly that the food is bad (and so is the food service), the internet is poor, no cable but I’ve heard they had cable jacks in all the dorms…are they taunting you or something?

Nope, never going there…you couldn’t pay me to go there. My “bff” is on her own. I’ve warned her she knows nothing about this place…but -shrug- guess she’ll find out sooner or later.
