What college would you NEVER go to and why?

I’m Catholic but Liberty sounds way too silly. I mean I agree with curfews and that the opposite sex shouldn’t stay over. But I mean holding hands and no R rated movies, these people are adults. They also shouldn’t fine anyone for anything, that’s greedy.

My god, I’m reading their rules right now.

There goes all the entertainment I’ve ever enjoyed.

Then again, I would not wish to attend any school associated with Jerry Falwell.

Boston University for a lot of reasons:
1.) SUCKS TO BU
2.) They don’t have a campus, instead they have a mile long street. Taking the T to class is a realistic scenario for some people.
3.) Their hockey fans are bandwagon fans, if they were to have a bad season, they wouldn’t show up
4.) Very snotty atmosphere
5.) Their medical students gun down people in hotel lobbies

Brigham Young University - Stephanie Meyer went there.

I also don’t like the fact BU and BC sound so similar, that’s a turnoff. People may get the name confused.

I’d never go to Western Connecticut State…because it’s fifteen minutes from my house. Too close. I also, for some reason, really don’t like NYC (although I like other cities, so maybe its just overload) so I’m not going to even apply to any of the schools there.

I would never attend Yale Undergrad:

 1. Yale is in New Haven, lackluster AND dangerous city.
 2. The undergrad experience is too individual. I like a group experience (aka rah rah school spirit).
 3. Does not offer non-econ business as a major.
 4. The campus looks too Gothic and church-like for my liking. It overwhelms you instead of making you relax.
 5. The motto is uninspired (Lux et Veritas)
 6. Student to faculty ratio = too small. I like bigger classes where I can compete/work with other people.
 7. No competitive football/basketball.
 8. Too close to home.

I also wouldn’t go to any school in the Plains area such as CO, WY, SD, ND, etc.

I would never want to go to…

Any intense math/science/technology based small school, like Harvey Mudd, Caltech, or MIT… I can only imagine how depressing such an environment must be.
UC Riverside or UC San Diego
University of Colorado-Boulder (everyone I know who goes here is absolutely miserable, plus it’s way too cold)
NYU (I hate the fact that it doesn’t feel like you’re on a college campus)

My god, I’m reading their rules right now.

Quote:
Liberty University encourages all students to abstain from any form of entertainment that would compromise their testimony to the world and their relationship to God.

There goes all the entertainment I’ve ever enjoyed.

Then again, I would not wish to attend any school associated with Jerry Falwell.

^^^
wow those are pretty bad rules. The ironic thing is that their name is “Liberty” and yet that take that away from you lol

Collegebound: It sounds very ironic to me, lol. Are there any other schools which do this? I have never heard of any Jesuit/Catholic college’s which have these rules.

I wouldn’t have wanted to go to a small LAC, anywhere near the beach (except California and maybe Florida), mountains, desert, or great plains. I also probably wouldn’t have considered going to most schools in the Northeast or Midwest… with the exception of MIT and possibly Princeton.

Being at a school in the South, I can say that there are definitely some drawbacks, but it’s not so awful. Granted, there’s no diversity to speak of and most of the people here are wasting space, but… it’s easy enough to avoid the undesirables. It’s not my ideal situation, I suppose, but I think the real thing to keep in mind is that most reasonable people can learn to appreciate the positive and tolerate the negative. Most universities (well, the upper-tier ones, at the least) aren’t a joke.

I originally really liked Pepperdine, but all the rules is a con.

I’m quite sure BYU, Pepperdine, Baylor, and Notre Dame all have similar rules. I heard at BYU and Pepperdine, the students sign pledges that they will not have sex (like a bunch of horny college students really are going to adhere to that); at Duke, they had condoms in the vending machines - A1 chips, B2 M&Ms, C5 condoms, D7 Snickers…

It’s called “The Liberty Way.” Here are a link:

[Reprimands and Consequences at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University](<a href=“404 Not Found”>Reprimands and Consequences at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University)

I most def couldn’t go there because you can’t wear sweats to class!

Other facts:

 • You can only hold hands, no kissing (not even a peck on the cheek)
 • In 2001, they abolished the “guys must wear ties” rule
 • You can’t wear shorts in the cafeteria
 • You can’t take food from the cafeteria (this include fruit, bagels, etc), b/c that’s stealing
 • There are room checks three times a week
 • Liberty recently (early 2000s) started allowing females to wear jeans
 • Video games rated “A” and “RP” or “M” with descriptors indicating any sexual content, alcohol/drug content, or strong language are prohibited

Anybody attend any of these schools, how do you feel about this? Do you care at all, btw?

^^I actually spent a good portion of yesterday reading horror stories about Liberty…which was what caused me to post in this thread.

I’m a very liberal Agnostic and am incredibly critical of close-mindedness. They’d lynch me if I went there…

I have family in Lynchburg and have heard some interesting stories about Liberty. That place is… unusual. I have a number of friends who are very devout Mormons (and hope to attend BYU), but the way things are run at Liberty goes way beyond religion. They run the place like a prison, and far too many students leave brainwashed but not educated (even in religion!)

I would be afraid to step foot on campus. I didn’t even know, but Liberty is Baptist. I should have known, lol. It’s just I live in the South and know a lot of people who are Baptist and they are not even that conservative. I think lots of their parents would want their kids to go there. I know one kid who is a senior and going to BYU.

Notre Dame’s rules are wayyyyyyyy different than Liberty’s.

The only big rule I can think of at Notre Dame is the parietal system, which just prohibits members of the opposite sex from being in a dorm past a certain hour.

Star: I don’t think that Norte Dame’s rule is a huge deal compared to Liberty. Also, a lot more people who aren’t Catholic attend Norte Dame. I am thinking 99.9% of Liberty are Baptist.
