What colleges are right for me?

Hello
I am unsure of where to even begin looking at colleges. I am from the north-east and I like hot weather and cold weather so that is not a big deal for me! I don't mind being in a rural area but would prefer being near or in a town/city. I want a school with a good reputation, strong school spirit and has a nice social scene too. I took the ACT for the first time and got a 27 but am looking to improve that and my unweighted GPA is a 3.2. Schools with the option of sororities would be nice but is not a deal breaker for me.. All suggestions and recommendations are welcome and appreciated!

Things like cost constraints and possible majors might help others help you.

There are no cost constraints but I am unsure of what I want to major in.

Your parents have assured you that up to $60,000 per year cost of attendance is ok?

Regarding major, is there any general category of majors that you are most likely to choose from? Do you foresee your interests and strengths being mainly in humanities (e.g. literature, philosophy, history), social studies (e.g. psychology, sociology, economics, political science, anthropology, history), biological science (biology), physical science (e.g. physics, geology, astronomy, chemistry), or mathematical science (e.g. math, statistics, computer science)? Different colleges have different areas of strength and weakness.

My parents are ok with it; I have one sister and one brother at schools that cost around that much. For general categories I foresee my interests and strengths being mainly in social studies.

Your requirements are so broad and vague that most schools would fit them! I think your best bet is to start browsing through some good college guides (borrow them from the library), perhaps visit some campuses near home, and start playing around with college search engines to see where you could get in with your stats. There is one here on CC [College Search - College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_search/index.htm)

Since you have virtually no constraints and are happy with pretty much anything other than a community college, commuter or tech school, why not look at your local state U as a starting point? Chances are it’s the best deal financially - and there will always be things to spend that money on later. It will probably have most of the majors you might be interested in, a huge variety of ECs, sororities, and - extra benefit - if you want to see your family, they won’t be far away.
