What Colleges are Right for Me?

Hello! I'm a rising Senior from Florida (I'm a white male), and I was curious of what schools you think might be good for me to apply to? I would like to go either somewhere in the south or somewhere on the East Coast, as far up as New York or so.

Here are my academic statistics:
GPA: 4.52 weighted and 3.92 un-weighted
Currently ranked #2 in my class of 360 or so
SAT: 2110 Superscore [640 CR] [730 M] [740 W]

Past Ap Classes:
AP World (5)
AP Psych (4)
AP US History (3)
AP English Lang (4)
AP Bio (3)

Senior Year APs:
AP Calc AB
AP English Lit
AP Macroeconomics
AP Microeconomics
AP Government and Politics

My best extracurricular is that I'm the assistant coach for a local baseball team (I had been playing on that team for at least 6 years previously, but I am now older than the age limit).

I'm also a member of 3 honor societies (and a former member of a fourth) and a member of the school's volunteering club.

I have done some volunteering in the classroom for my 4th grade elementary school teacher and have racked up hours down at the local soup kitchen.

I also have my Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Thanks so much in advance :)

Prospective major, criteria (size, urban/rural/suburban, etc.), and what can your parents afford?

I’m not certain of the major yet, but probably related to math, business, and/or the social sciences.

I would probably prefer a suburban area that is fairly close to a city, but that’s not definite.

I’ve never really understood the question “what can your parents afford.” I do have the Florida pre-paid with 2yr dorm. My parents make somewhere between 70-80k, but I don’t see how they can just say “we can pay 10k per year.” They have bills to pay and other mouths to feed. They don’t really even know how much they are able to pay until I get the Financial Aid plan from the college(s).

Looking good for University of Florida and University of Miami.

I don’t see any reason to go out of state unless you get into the ivy’s or other top private schools. Please take advantage of that 6k per year tuition which is one of the lowest in the country.

Thanks XtremePower. The Florida schools are definitely high on my list. The only 2 OOS schools I have considered were Emory and Vanderbilt, but I didn’t really feel like I fit in at Vanderbilt. Emory and Miami were very nice schools, and I hear great things about UF. Do you think that I should just consider those, and maybe FSU and USF?

Ur stats are pretty good. Definitely look at 1 or 2 ivys. And NYU is good for buisness. If ur looking at math, then harvey mudd is good, if u dont mind california.

^ The OP would have to pay $65K/year for NYU. That’s a bit of a hit on a $80K family income, no?

OP, you’re misunderstanding. What they will know after getting the FA offer is what they HAVE to pay, not what they can afford to pay. Ask them how much they are willing to put to your college yearly. I think the in-state options are great, especially with Bright Futures and any pre-paid. Also you can look here for some schools:

Thank you all for the replies! I’ll take a look at that link, but Muhammad, I don’t think I will plan on applying for any ivies.
