I already know NYU, it is my number one, but since it is so expensive i am looking at other schools. I know Point Park, Purchase and Emerson also but i would like some other options. I prefer schools in the city, but others are okay.

University of Missouri in Columbia, MO has a great journalism program. They have every specialization under the sun and tons of hands-on opportunities for students. It is public, but OOS costs can get somewhat steep. Luckily they are fairly generous to top-scoring students. I visited this past spring because I too am interested in journalism, but found the school to be too sports-focused and the town pretty secluded. But you never know, it could be the right place for you! Best of luck

Ohio University has a fantastic journalism program. I believe they have automatic scholarships based on high test scores. It’s a rural campus though.

Here is College Magazine’s ranking of top journalism schools: http://www.collegemagazine.com/editorial/2282/Top-10-Journalism-Schools

University of Iowa is great for both Journalism and Creative Writing. Their creative writing workshop is one of the best in the country.

Depending on your academics, Northwestern would also be a great choice for Journalism and Drama.

Northwestern’s Journalism and Drama are fantastic. OU has also been mentioned, but their academics overall don’t stack up to NU. Having said that, NU is ridiculously expensive, so that might knock it out of the running for you.

Also, Syracuse University has an outstanding Journalism program, which was recently ranked #1 by Newsweek. It’s in NY, but I heard the city of Syracuse isn’t all that great.

OP has 1900s for SATs. NU is unrealistic. I don’t know how much higher the bar is for OU’s Scripps school than the general student body. They also have drama writing.

That famous OU writing program isn’t for undergrads.
Syracuse is both expensive and the J-school very hard to get into. OP’s best option may be his/her local university and writing for the school paper/literary magazine. Please note, OP, that some of the most famous schools in the US don’t offer a journalism major. They encourage their students to write for school publications while getting a solid general education either as preparation to work in journalism or to get into a top J-school grad program.

For creative wriiting, Bard is hard to beat. It does not have journalism, however.

Ithaca has a nice journalism program.

Katliamom, [Colleges & Majors: Ohio University Admissions](http://www.ohio.edu/admissions/academics/comm.cfm) I see Journalism right there as an undergrad program. That is the same program Peter King, one of the top sport journalists in the US, graduated from.
Michigan State (MSU) for Journalism, and Creative/Dramatic Writing!!

Go State!! :)

USC Annenberg.

thanks! does anyone know of any more in cities?

I think that katliasmom meant to say that Iowa U’s famous creative writing program isn’t for undergrads. It’s a Masters program.

Maybe look at Boston University?
Great Journalism program.

Look into Marquette University. It’s in Milwaukee, and with 1900 you have a great shot at admission.

Northwestern, hands down. One of the best journalism schools in the country, a great theater program, and it’s in Chicago, which is a fantastic city. I’d pick NU over NYU any day.
