<p>During the spring, I travel to poverty-ridden areas of Haiti and dedicate my time and services to underprivileged families by building homes, wells, and volunteering at a local hospital.</p>

<p>Schools I am considering:
I am thinking of schools that are "liberal/open-minded", diverse, city-like area.
My number one is NYU for that reason. Any other schools I should look into? </p>

<p>Ahhh NYU is so expensive. They’re stingy with financial aid, and I doubt your scores are high enough for them to court you with any merit, should they even accept you. By all means make it your top choice (and I’m sorry I can’t suggest many better alternatives), but please don’t accept any offer there without comparing financial aid packages very closely. </p>

<p>The closest I can come to suggestions are that, depending on what state you’re from I think you’d probably be a good candidate for most state flagships (except California) or an honors program at a second-rank state college.</p>

<p>You have a lot of major reaches. I’d add some of the women’s colleges easier to get into than Barnard like Holyoke and Smith that give good aid.</p>

<p>It sounds like you need financial aid. If so, take NYU off your list, they won’t be affordable and they give lousy aid. Also, take off Rutgers and Penn State if you’re OOS for those schools.</p>

<p>You have too many reach schools for your stats. What is your unweighted GPA?</p>

<p>If you’re low-income, then you need to focus on schools that give lots of need-based aid.</p>

<p>Just curious, how do you have struggling financial issues and travel to Haiti?</p>

<p>My school has this program for us to travel there. It’s for students in NHS. Expenses are covered by the school.</p>

<p>I want to assure myself that I am good enough for these schools. So, if I didn’t have any financial problems, would I be able to get in to those schools academically?</p>

<p>Frankly, for some your GPA and SAT are very low - Brown, Penn, Barnard.</p>

<p>Quite low for NYU and BC, honestly, too. (Around 25th percentile or a little less, so about 25% of admitted students have worse scores.)</p>
