Thank you for your time!

What can you afford? Private/Public? In-state or OOS?

Well, what are your interests and school preferences (private/public, large/small, liberal arts/not, Greek life & school spirit, etc.)? What is your budget or will you apply for financial aid? What is the state in which you want to live/study at? Where do you believe you fit in? What kind of sports do you wish to do (with the information that you are basketball varsity, do you desire to continue this sport throughout college)? What kind of weather can you thrive in? Do you desire to study with an eclectic mix, or more of an Asian mix (since you stated you are Asian-Indian)? What is your intended major? What kind of culture do you wish to immerse yourself in (social life + activities/school events + outside school activities etc.)? How distant do you wish to be from home?

Since you provided your UC/CSU GPA, can CC posters conclude that you wish to study in the state of California?

Without information like these, no one can chance you.

I’m interested in Public Universities in CA.

UCs do not look at class rank. Your UC GPA is for sure better than your SAT. In my opinion, your GPA is fairly decent as a 4.0+ can be good depending on course load. The thing is, what was your course load during sophomore year? UC GPA is only sophomore and junior grades combined, and UCs will not take into account an applicant’s senior year GPA. Your GPA is much better than your SAT, which is around a 1780 on the old scale. What is good is that UCs prefer high GPAs than high test scores. This kind of applies to you, but your GPA is not as high and your SAT is not too good. UCs get extremely competitive especially with computer science as a major. For UCs, your best bets are probably UCM, UCSC, and UCR. UCI is a possibility as well as it is more forgiving with test scores. I think you should try retaking the SAT and if you are to score 1350+, other UCs will be more possible as you will have a better profile. Make sure to apply to CSUs and CCs for safeties.

Good luck.

You should apply to all of the UCs (it is all the same application) and one or two CSUs (maybe SLO and a lower ranked one) to diversify your chances. Good luck.
