What Colleges Fit My Criteria?

I want to double major in something business (finance, accounting, management, etc) and journalism.

I live in New England and I want to go to a school in Southern California. Some where near Los Angeles. My GPA is 3.8-3.9 (UW) and a 4.40 (W).

My ECs are pretty good and my teacher recs will most likely be great.

I am a junior right now and I got a 149 on my PSAT, but I will study hard and I enrolled in Kaplan to rise my scores.

So far this is my list;

USC
CSU Long Beach
Pepperdine (but I'm a non-Christian)
NYU
Pace University

Any other ideas for schools in Southern California

You should check out the Claremont colleges. I only really know about Harvey Mudd, which wouldn’t fit you, but if you look at the others (Pomona, CMC, Scripps, Pitzer), you might find something you like.

CMC and Pomona would definitely provide what you are looking for in terms of location and academics. It really takes a look at both to determine which is a better fit for you. I expect that both will require a significant improvement in SAT scores over your PSAT range, but you seem to understand that. I don’t know how Pitzer and Scripps figure into this but if you are not female Scripps is out! Claremont is a great place to go to school and LA is accessable especially if you have a car. If you are looking for a big city feel from the school it is however probably not the place for you. Students sometimes refer to Claremont as the “Claremont Bubble”, this is a good or bad thing depending on your perspective. Everyone I know who goes to school there loves it!

If you’re not interested in a Christian school, I’d take Pepperdine out of the list. Evidently it’s become more strongly Christian over the past few years, according to various friends of mine who have attended.

I’ll second the Claremont colleges vote. They’re great schools. What about Occidental?

USC should probably be your #1 choice for sure!

After that I suggest Loyola Marymount which isn’t as religious as Pepperdine. LMU offers your majors and is located right in LA ;)

You should consider UC Irvine, CSU Long Beach, and CSU Northridge…but keep in mind that these are state schools.

The Claremont Colleges are too competitive and far from LA. Also, I don’t think any of the schools offer both of your majors.

Occidental College is good, but doesn’t offer your majors.

UCLA is too competitive for Business Econ and Communication…even for CA residents so Int’l for get it!

Do you think I can get into USC?
