What colleges fit this criteria, and which ones absolutely do NOT?

Oh, I didn’t know Vandy and Tulane had such strong writing programs. Thanks!

Btw, how about Occidental or WUSTL? Anyone have any insight in these two schools?

Edit: Didn’t see the above post haha. WashU as in WUSTL? St. Louis actually seems the right amount of warmth for me :stuck_out_tongue: I would rather not go anywhere that is, for example, muggy Florida hot.

WUSTL=WashU :)

Kay, just making sure :)

This is not the college search and selections forum. In case you didn’t know.

This has been mentioned twice before, so I have realized this kthx.

college search has become such a prominent part of life for some people that it is now invading every corner of high school life :O

Thanks for defending me Calico  Also, my parents are putting quite the pressure on me applying to Johns Hopkins…anyone know how good the writing program (or lack thereof) is there?

Bump…bumpity bump bump?

If it weren’t for a mid size I would say UT in Austin (but that place is large). Only one I haven’t seen already mentioned is Occidental College, they came by my school once and it seems like a great place, private, biology and writing majors, in LA, nice campus, etc.

I am thinking that the No TAs criteria nukes the great majority of these schools.

^yeah, I mean, every school is going to have TAs but not necessarily taught by them. Still some people actually learn best by the younger students giving help than the old professor who’s might be too busy to care

I recommend Hogwarts. Their academic programs are top notch (best in England & Scotland). Furthermore, the campus is beautiful. Though it can get cold, living in a castle is totally worth it.

I transferred out since it was too annoying flying to the British airport and taking a bus to Kings Cross every year. But yeah, totes worth it

Tulane, University of San Diego?

^^but Hogwarts is like the coldest school ever. Besides, without fluency in unusual magical skills the OP is sure to be rejected.

On Rice and WUSTL:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/rice-university/291183-101-reasons-attending-rice.html</a></p>

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/washington-university-st-louis/684907-101-reasons-attend-washu.html</a></p>

I’ve been to both Occidental and Wash U (attending in the fall). Oxy is really nice and has better weather than Wash U, but the school is very small (2000 undergrads…thats smaller than my high school!). They’re both great schools, but ultimately, I chose WU for its strong pre-med and its business school.

I applied for the summer Accelerated Potions Course at Hogwarts, but after my rejection, I saw a future rejection letter coming my way for the full program as well. Otherwise, believe me, this thread would’ve been completely unecessary.

Occidental is now on my list, thanks :3 I think the small size of the school would be okay considering how freakin’ huge LA is and how many unis it has. It’d be really nice, actually :p

I added Tulane as well.

P.S. While Exeter has about 1000 students, my current/old? school has only 42 other kids in my graduating class…so I’m used to a very small environment haha.

Occidental is a great school. However it doesn’t fit the midsize criteria (1825 students total). Other than that it is a great fit, potentially, classic campus and all.

What about Duke? It’s warm, near a city, and has a beautiful campus.
Or maybe UNC Chapel Hill, UVA, Penn, or Georgetown?

Duke’s on my list! :3 So are Chapel Hill and Penn, but not UVA because of it’s out of state tuition (I feel like it’d be easier to get good fin aid from a private school than from an OOS…I live in NC, so Chapel Hill = instate tuition for me. yay.) I considered Georgetown (I think I mentioned somewhere that my sis is an alum?) however my mom doesn’t think it’d be the best for my goals and her opinion matters a lot to me.

My current list of colleges that fit my list:
Duke
WUSTL
Emory
Rice
Vanderbilt
Tulane
Occidental
Chapel Hill

Plus a few top reaches that I would be happy to give up one or two things from my list for…Penn, Columbia, UChi, MIT, Stanford, HYP, etc.

However, I’ll definitely cut down a few of these unis from my list before I apply, but I think this is a good draft so far.
