What colleges like IB?

Would love to hear from people who know of colleges that demonstrate a strong preference for full IBDP applicants. Controlling for other factors (yes we all know correlation is not causation), are there colleges that are known to tip in favor of IB kids?

Based on my son’s experience, I think that all colleges probably like to see the IB Diploma, as the Diploma program requires skills like research and writing that are key to college success, and it also requires hard work and persistence, also keys to college success. (Apart from the fact my son believes having the IB Diploma helped him in the admissions process, the program clearly did set him up well for college studies.) The only systematic study of the specific issue that you raise that I am aware of is this 2011 study by the IBO, which you may already have seen:

This one includes quotes from a bunch of AOs and is a bit more recent:

Other articles focus on the extent to which IB program credits can be used at particular colleges. There is a really wide range. Some colleges only give credit for HL 5s and 6s or maybe only 6s, some give credit for SL classes as well. You can always find this information somewhere on the school website.

This is not really the case that the IB Diploma per se is preferred at all colleges. Some colleges are agnostic about the IB Diploma, although they may consider IB courses to be more rigorous than regular courses at the high school and may give credit, subject credit, and/or advanced placement for sufficiently high IB HL scores. The CSUs in California are examples of this type of thing – their point system based admissions does not include any points for the IB Diploma, although individual IB courses may help gain honors points in the recalculation of high school GPA used in the point system.
