I'm only a sophomore, so I've only began looking at colleges recently. I know that some people put down community colleges as their safety schools and some put down BU based on their academic record and whatnot. I was wondering what kind of college would be my safetly school? I mean I know it's a little early to tell, but what are examples of the best colleges I'd be sure to get into?

GPA(W): 4.24

Dean's List (and to brag for a second, I had almost all A+'s on my report card last semester without trying all too hard)

SAT/ACT: My highest scores including projected scores...
800 Math
770 Writing
640 CR (I'm practicing now!!! Hopefully it will be a bit higher next time)

34 Composite

Freshman: 2 H classes (our school doesn't offer a lot of honors classes because it's so tiny and it limits the amount of AP's. I'm currently taking all the most advanced classes I can.)
Sophomore: 1 AP, 1 H

Extracurriculars/Clubs: Piano, Theatre (multiple awards and plays/musicals), Choir (multiple honor choirs, section leader), Youth Leadership Council, Presentation Team (part of YLC), French club representative for YLC, Acapella group

Volunteer/Work: I interned at my aunt's company (she's a financial analyst) in Beijing last summer, but I doubt that counts for much. I volunteered at a library for a while but they had nothing for me to do (literally. nothing.) so I stopped after a while. I frequently volunteer at my church. I'm going to apply for internships and/or work this summer. I know I lack some in this area so I'm planning on volunteering and interning for all the summers to come.

Oops, I worded that oddly. The best example part. What I mean is, what are the best colleges I’d still be almost absolutely certain to get into. Like, don’t put down Calhoun Community College. That’s a no-brainer.

I’m not sure what my unweighted GPA is, but not too low because I’m not taking that many honors/ap’s. I can afford any school. Possibly economy major?

You should be able to calculate your unweighted GPA the usual way. Due to variations in weighting method, weighted GPA is not very reliable in determining reach/match/safety except in the context of your high school (e.g. using its Naviance plots).

Check to see if your in-state publics have automatic admission formulas which apply to you. There are also some schools like University of Alabama that have automatic merit scholarships for your stats (presumably, they will admit you if you qualify for automatic scholarships).

Your stats are in the range where many of the colleges’ admission procedures are holistic and opaque, so finding actual safeties without going significantly below your stats may be difficult.

Thanks!!! Although being a match for Berkeley would be really nice, I think ucbalumnus is right, too. It’s hard to find a great college as an actual safetly, and I’m sure that I don’t want to go to a school that’s significantly below my abilities.

I would agree, pretty much all of the UCs may be safeties, and UCB and UCLA would probably be match to slight reach (but you never know with those two.)
