I am really interested in computer sciences and technology/engineering, but also Social Entrepreneurship. My dream university is Stanford, but i know it is going to be very very hard(<10%). My application for FA, will hurt my chances even more in times of the financial crisis.

not perfect GPA (although in relevant class i have A+)

not outstanding leadership EC/Awards

What colleges should i apply to?
Where should I ED?
What are my chances at:

Brown -
Columbia -
Caltech -
Stanford (dream) -
MIT -
UPenn -
Duke -
Cornell -

I Think most are high reaches, aren't they? Why can't I find more matches/safeties?

Ok, got the ACT Score: 32

I would day definite yeses for Duke and Cornell, probable yeses for Brown and UPenn and Columbia, and maybes for Stanford, Caltech, and MIT. Who knows, though----you might get a Yes from Stanford and a No from Cornell. Good Luck, either way.

It’s so cool that you live in Germany! It definitely shows that you have a strong interest for technology and engineering. Do you normally speak English? Cuz it seems as though you are fluent in the language. I don’t know how colleges look at international applications but I’ll try to chance you anyway.

Brown - low reach
Columbia - reach
Caltech - low reach
Stanford (dream) - reach
MIT - reach
UPenn - low reach
Duke - match
Cornell - match

From what I’ve heard, essays play a huge role so be sure to spend effort/time on those!

yeah i think you have a good shot in all those colleges. itll be hard getting into hyps but it is for everyone else too. write good essays and get got recs and youre in good shape!

Brown - low reach
Columbia - low reach
Caltech - low reach
Stanford (dream) - reach
MIT - reach
UPenn - low reach
Duke - match
Cornell - match

I’m not familiar with your grading system, so my estimates are based off your predicted standardized test scores, extracurriculars (wow!), and diverse background. Best of luck!

Brown - reach
Columbia - reach
Caltech - reach
Stanford (dream) - high reach
MIT - high reach
UPenn - reach
Duke - low match
Cornell - low reach

your ACT score is kind of low for the top schools. and your ECs don’t look outstanding. just average. maybe try to excel in the SATs. good luck anyways.

What are your individual ACT scores???

Brown - reach theyre very picky
Columbia - reach
Caltech - reach
Stanford (dream) - high reach theyre VERY picky
MIT - well a reach for most people
UPenn -reach-----they look carefully at scores
Duke - low reach to match
Cornell -low reach

work on your ACT scores, ECs. Have you taken subject test SAT IIs idk if international students need it , but the rest of us do!!!
good luck!!

my individual ACT Scores:
English 28, Match 34 Reading 31 Science 33
Was just a practice test and i was ill. I Hope with learning and full concentration i can raise to 33 - 34.
What’s about
Boston University -
Johns Hopkins -
UC Southern California -
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute -

U have very strong ECs and won a lot of prestigious awards. If u can make 2200+ on your SAT and 32+ on your ACT, then here are your chances:

Brown - reach
Columbia - low reach
Caltech - reach
Stanford (dream) - high reach
MIT - low reach
UPenn - low reach
Duke - match
Cornell - match

Brown - Reach
Columbia - Low reach
Caltech - low reach
Stanford (dream) - reach, always will be for nearly everyone
MIT - reach
UPenn - low reach
Duke - match
Cornell - match

As others have said, just try to get 2200+ on SAT or 34+ ACT and you’ll be set.

Brown - reach
Columbia - low reach
Caltech - reach
Stanford (dream) - high reach
MIT - reach
UPenn - low reach
Duke - match
Cornell - match

definitely try and find some safeties. you’ve good chances but these schools are always a crapshoot. if you really really love stanford you could always apply ea

Actually I am not sure about you, you have excellent EC’s for MIT and Caltech so honestly I think your best chances are at those two schools. Your test scores and GPA leave a little to desire though, and you being an international student the competition will be BRUTAL.

To make your application ‘the best possible chance,’ I would seriously attempt at a near perfect ACT/SAT I. Because honestly, the competition for you will be insane; you need all the ‘ooomf’ you can get!

yes most of these schools are reaches.

Brown - reach
Columbia - reach
Caltech - reach
Stanford (dream) - reach
MIT - reach
UPenn - i think ull get in… high match/low reach
Duke - low reach
Cornell - match/high match

I don’t know if any ivy university accept you but I think your profile is really impressive, you should try.

Id say a pretty solid match for Brown…the Germany deal is a massive boost, with a solid background. Good EC’s. Shoot for Stanford all the way though, good reach school for you no doubt.

There are a lot of posters who don’t have a clue on this thread. We have an ORM, from Western Europe (well represented), maybe top 10% with a 32 ACT seeking financial aid. Duke, Cornell and Penn are matches??? All of them have very little aid for internationals and reserve it for those who are very top students in their countries. Not a single one of your schools is need blind to internationals and it is insanely competitive to get into any of them needing money.

Sorry OP, all of your original schools are reaches. Your second list is more realistic, but how much money you need will play a large role. You should get into BU for example, but they give the big money to their very top candidates. If you can pay most and only need $10K, you should be in good shape, if you need $40K, it’s a reach.

I also wondered, why everybody gave me that good stats …
You have to be honest with me. IT is useless, if you evaluate my situation better than it is.
Thank you hmom5. For all another chancers:
My estimated need will be around $20K.
Here again is my full list:
Brown -
Columbia -
Caltech -
Stanford (dream) -
MIT -
UPenn -
Duke -
Cornell -
Boston University -
Johns Hopkins -
UC Southern California -
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute -

I’m not sure about that European grading system but here’s what I think

Brown -reach
Columbia -reach
Caltech -low reach(with sat’s at the upper end of your range)
Stanford (dream) -reach(high scores+good essays=even better chances)
MIT -reach
UPenn -low reach
Duke-high match/low reach
Cornell -
