What colleges should I apply to?

UW gpa: 3.94
W gpa: 4.23
SAT: 2300
PSAT: 227
sat subjects: chem 750, math 770, bio 780
My family can't contribute more than $23 k/yr
I'd like nice weather (CA), but can make exceptions for great schools.
Interested in finance/accounting or biology
I am applying to many UCs

I am mostly looking for privates to apply for given my statistics. Thanks!

What is your EFC? Did you run any NPC to see if the colleges will expect more than that 23k? You might get some merit at USD or Santa Clara. You sound OOS are you? You will not be able to afford UC, most likely there is a 23k charge just for OOS, and then you will have to pay the regular amount too unless you qualify for aid so your cost may be $55k. Also you may not have heard, but those are public schools!

You can apply to a lot of reach schools that can afford great financial aid packages, as long as you include a few solid, affordable safeties. With your stats, your state flagship (wherever you live) will probably be happy to have you, and might well offer you a nice scholarship. I would be amazed if any UCs reject you, and think that Berkeley and UCLA are the only ones that aren’t safe for you. If you aren’t a CA resident, then you’ll have to explore other options financially. Stanford is a long-shot for anyone, but your stats make it a plausible reach for you. USC,Tulane and University of Miami are known for being generous to high-stat applicants. Is that $23k your family’s “EFC” or simply what you think your parents will be willing to pay? Occidental met our EFC, and my son’s stats weren’t close to yours. I think you’d have an excellent chance at both Claremont-McKenna and Pomona, and they are both likely to meet need (CMC is known for having very solid resources available for aid packages, and might not be quite the reach that Pomona is). I might add Rice, Vanderbilt, and WashU(St.Louis) to your list of possibilities, also.

UC’s for sure
Pepperdine as a match/low match
Ponoma

If you are qualified for FA in Pomona and your family contribution expected by Pomona is affordable, you may consider both Pomona and Claremont McKenna. Do run the NPCs. The NPCs are pretty accurate in those colleges that meet full financial needs, except for the families that own business or rental properties.

Please note that Rice and Vanderbilt do not offer business/accounting majors. Check Rhodes College and Washington and Lee University. Both offer good business and biology programs. You can aim at the scholarships/fellowships offered by these two schools. W & L also meet your full financial need.

thanks everyone! @BrownParent, I am a California resident. Also, 23K is my family’s EFC. I have used many net price calculators, and judging from most of them, i can expect to to pay around ~15k with financial aid at some privates, and about ~25k at UCs. I was just wondering if there are any good fits for me with good financial aid and decent acceptance rates! Any more advice would be very helpful :)

there are lots of scholarships out there for which you would qualify. here are some places to look for automatic and competitive full tuition/full ride scholarships:

<a href=“Automatic Full Tuition / Full Ride Scholarships - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums”>Automatic Full Tuition / Full Ride Scholarships - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums;

A few additional possibilities in the Sun Belt:

Private

Belmont Abbey College
Wofford College
Emory University
U of Dallas
U of San Diego
U of Tulsa

Public

Clemson University
U of South Carolina-Columbia
U of Alabama-Birmingham

If know of someone who got good pkg at Univ of San Diego, degree in accounting and a 1 yr MS of taxation and has and recruited for big 4 job. You only said nice weather, possibly CA and no other preferences. So if you are interested in a smaller private beautiful school then take a look.

bump

You can try Wharton as a reach school if you’re truly interested in finance/accounting.
