I’m an international student from Taiwan and I’m kinda unsure about where I should apply to. Here’s some basic info
SAT(new): 1480(English 690 Math 790)
ACT: 33
SAT subject: Math 2 780, world history 640
TOEFL: 115(listening 30, reading 30, speaking 26, writing 29)
GPA: 3.86
ECs: (I’ll just list the ones that i think are most important to me)
I have taken part in almost every international exchange event in my school.
I have been playing percussion instruments for 12 years and I’m currently in a percussion group outside of school.
I’m part of two volunteer groups in my school.
*I will need financial aid to afford my college education
*My school is a local public school so we don’t have AP classes
*I plan to major in economics or math, I’m also considering double-majoring in both
P.s. I already have some college on my mind including:
Princeton, Amherst (those two will kinda be my “reach” schools), and Skidmore
For strong economics programs, you can search for “Economics Departments at Liberal Arts Colleges” (the top seven would be particularly strong) and “US Economics Departments” (IDEAS).
From the information aforementioned, I can tell you you got even a shot at getting a full scolarship in one of the US top colleges. Therefore, all I can tell you is to write great application essays for the colleges you are aiming for. Good Luck!
@jessiexoxotw As a matter of fact, my brother recently got into Yale “It’s his freshman year” and with only a score of 2090 in the old SAT, yet, he wrote some deep and thoughtful essays that he basically put into them dozens of hours only because he knew how fundamental these were for his college admission.
@mom2collegekids I know the top schools are quite out of reach for me, I’ll probably still try my best to apply to 1 or 2 of them, thanks for the advice though:)
Also, do you have any suggestions on what kind of schools my safety schools should be like? Coz I’m not really sure what qualifies as a “safety” school for me.
Thanks!
@Yall19ie Thanks for believing in me and I do think if people work hard maybe we can turn what seems impossible into reality.
Anyways, I’ll work hard to try to get in one of those top schools, but I’ll still make time to finish the applications to the more “realistic” schools.
Again, thanks everyone for the advice!!
@ClarinetDad16 I have heard about Tulane but I don’t really know much about that school…well, I’ll look up that school soon:)
And thanks for the advice!!
These colleges appear in a Princeton Review sampling, “Great Schools for Mathematics Majors,” (undergraduate based) and would offer you a range of selectivity options:
St. Lawrence
St. Olaf
Holy Cross
Bryn Mawr
URochester
Macalester
Reed
Grinnell
Hamilton
