What Colleges Should I Apply to?

Hey! I’m currently a junior in high school. I am an international applicant (I’m from Canada) and I’m in the IB program. With the following stats, does anyone have suggestions for colleges I should apply to? I’m looking for a good biomedical engineering or biochemistry program with lots of research opportunities. I want to go into academia in the future. I am also an asian female.

New SAT score: 1490, but will be retaking in May and I’m aiming for 1530+
I’m also planning to take two subject tests: Math II and Chemistry.

Junior year course load:
Higher Level Math (functions: 88%, data management: currently have 95%+, didn’t receive a mark update yet)
Standard Level Economics (93%)
Standard Level French B (93%)
Chemistry (85%)
Biology (79%)
Theory of Knowledge (85%)
Repertoire (band class) (94%)

^Yes, I know my marks are pretty bad. Our school doesn’t give us the IB mark conversions like they’re supposed to for chemistry, biology, and math. But my biology mark will definitely be increasing in the future.

Senior year course load:
HL Math
HL Chemistry
HL English
SL biology
SL Chemistry

Extra-curriculars:

-Music Council (Past: media representative Present: President): created, directed, choreographed a promotional video, created and updated the council’s website, led small group to plan video and discuss ways to improve future events, worked closely with staff advisor and other executives. As a president I lead the entire council (40 members) in weekly meetings, facilitate discussions, work with the school’s administration and staff, lead and motivate executives, draft long term plans. Our council also hosts 2 annual concerts where we attract 5+ corporate sponsors for each concert. This year I also planned a retreat for the entire music council, corresponded with camps, negotiated contracts, etc. We also have events basically every month such as halloween grams, this year we sold 700+ grams.

  • Symphonic Band (Section leader): I play the tuba, and I lead the tubas, baritones, and trombones. Our band received a silver plus award at provincials last year then received silver at nationals. This year we received silver at provincials and was invited to nationals once again.
  • Peer tutoring: I tutor chemistry, math, and french.
  • Music tutoring: I tutor tuba, ear training, and piano

-Piano: RCM level 10

  • Oxfam: We planned a clothing drive and donated all the clothes to Scott Mission (local food bank), filled an entire car with clothes. I also came up with the idea of having a no-phone pledge that we executed in December.
  • DECA: Regional Top 10 two years in a row, Provincial top 15 for case
  • FBLA: 2nd in Ontario last year, competed at NLC
  • Physics@Mac exam: physics contest hosted by the university of mcmaster. Placed in the top 55 out of 843 internationally.
  • Hosted the Math@Mac contest at my school
  • Currently planning a STEM workshop at my school to encourage girls in middle school to go into STEM related careers
  • Also currently emailing professors at the university of toronto to look for volunteer positions in their labs
  • Applied to a summer engineering program at a local university but have yet to hear back

I’M SO SORRY FOR THE SUPER LONG POST but I would greatly greatly appreciate anyone’s opinion on what sort of colleges I should apply to! Thank you so much in advance!!

Do you require biomedical engineering as an option (a significantly limiting factor), or would you be happy with biochemistry alone?

Your grades may require a thorough analysis, but, based on your scores, you fall near the top for most schools:

Are you looking for American or Canadian colleges or both?

@merc81 neither is a limiting factor

@philbegas American

You could probable narrow a list like this – one of many possible sources – relatively quickly to assemble an initial group of schools for further research:

Earlham would be a great safety - excellent biochemistry program, great grad school placement.
You’ll find lots of 'dream schools’easily.
