What colleges should I apply to?

I am a rising senior and I’m trying to decide what colleges to apply to. Here some info about me:
I’m ranked 25/80
4.0 gpa
I am taking the SAT in September
I’m majoring in marketing

Characteristics I would love in a school:

  • Located in a big city or near one
    -Small classes size
    -Professor that cares
  • A school that around like 4,000-16,000 students I don’t really want a large school
  • Great marketing program
  • I don’t really care about sports or parties
  • Not conservative
  • Not in New York ( I’m looking to go out of state)
  • Give good financial aid or merit scholarships
  • Public transportation system

My ECs aren’t the best so I don’t expect to get into a Top 20 school like Stanford, Tufts, Princeton, etc

1 Question when formulating a college list is what is your college budget/year?

Are you eligible for Federal or State aid? Are you looking for merit aid and what is the bottom line price you and your parents are willing to pay for your education?

AU sounds like it would be a great fit for you!

  • Most classes are under 50 students. There's only two large lecture halls on campus so most classes are small. The largest classes are around 100 students.
  • Most professors are very caring. You'll get the occasional bad professor, but overall the undergrad professors are pretty good.
  • Around 8k undergrads
  • You'd have two options based on what direction you want to go into. The business school has a business major with a concentration in marketing or you can major in Public Relations in the School of Communication.
  • There's not that much of a party scene, more of a club scene.
  • AU was ranked the third most liberal school by Niche in 2018. The school is definitely not an echo chamber though.
  • AU has pretty good merit aid and need-based aid. Merit aid averages around $15k and need-based averages around $30k.
  • AU is unique in that it's the only DC school that gives all students UPasses. These passes allow students unlimited rides on the metro.

@Gumbymom Hi, I qualified for both federal and state aid and I am looking for merit aid. I am low-income so me and my family can’t really afford to pay for my education out of pocket.

Loyola of Chicago seems to hit your preferences and gives good merit aid. Actually, many of the Jesuit schools fill that mid size bill and many are in cities.

So you are looking for a full ride @akikitrying and OOS? Difficult considering the Excelsior scholarship would be an excellent opportunity as an in-state NY applicant.

Probably not going to meet all your preferences but look at University of New Mexico, UT Dallas, Arizona State, Utah state and University of Mississippi to name a few.

You will need an SAT or ACT score for more input.
