I want to go to a school in California, New York, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Washington D.C.,Virginia or Connecticut

Other than being in those atates, are there any features about colleges that are essential or highly desirable to you?

Have you tried the Princeton Review's Counselor-o-matic tool? The Reach-Match-Safety descriptions are junk but it can give you a good "long list" of schools which fit your criteria. Even the act of filling out the questionnaire should help you get a better idea of what you want in a school.

Dreams16:

As a CA resident, you qualify for in-state tuition at schools in the UC system. Some CA parents may be able to give you a sense of the types of schools you should be aiming for in that system.

If you wish to go out of state, please let us know what kind of schools you would like to attend. Below are some questions to ask yourself, in no particular order:

An urban, suburban or rural school?
You will need to go back and forth between the school and home. Is proximity to an airport important?
What size school would you prefer? Would you prefer a small LAC (fewer than 2,000 students) or a bigger school? How big?
Do you like a school with frats and sororities or would you prefer one that has none or few?
Would it matter to you if a school had a reputation for hard partying?
Is access to research important to you? What kinds of ECs would you be interested in pursuing?
Do you want to be in a school with a reputation for being nurturing or are you comfortable being self-reliant?
As an African-American, how important is it to you to have other African-Americans among the student body?
What kind of academic interests do you have?

Give us some answers (they don't need to be very precise) so we can help you draw up a list of possibilities.

You've got excellent scores, good grades and are an URM. I think there's a good chance you'll get into most of the places you apply. You might do some college visiting in your area to get an idea of what sort of places appeal to you. Look at some smaller and larger schools, a public and a private, and an urban, a rural and suburban. Until you figure out if you can eliminate some schools that way you are going to have too many choices.
