bump

The problem is that your scores and GPA are ‘expected’, which is kind of wasting people’s time. Lots and lots of students “expect” high scores and don’t get them, for instance. :s But, taking those expected scores as “real”, this is what you’d have:
UMD CP and UMC BC = safeties (academic and financial, provided your parents can pay their EFC)
Penn State: academic safety, but do your parents have 45,000 per year in a 529 or high enough income to send you there?
Virginia Tech = match (but check that your parents have the money since you’ll be full pay)
Michigan ann arbor = reach (and COA is about 52K)
Illinois urbana champaign= match (but check that your parents have the money since you’ll be full pay)
Georgia Tech = reach (and check that your parents’ budget)
Purdue West Lafayette: safety (but check that your parents have the money since you’ll be full pay)
Odds are, your parents won’t want to pay OOS rates for schools that aren’t markedly better than UMD-CP.
For CSE, you can check out a few privates, such as Olin, Rose Hulman, RPI, Stevens, RIT…

@MYOS1634‌ that UMich is only $52K if you don’t include any personal/miscellaneous charges like transportation.

have you run the net price calculator at each school? have you talked to your parents about the EFC? otherwise, you have no idea where you can afford to go.

You have a year until you are applying so you shouldn’t be on the brink of a nervous breakdown, what’s up with that. You have a full year to continue to investigate colleges. You have your instate very good options and you can look for others that you are sure to get in.

Meanwhile if you don’t know what you are getting into, take a look at the requirements for graduating in each of those majors. Get familiar with what your schedule will look like and what the classes are about. Compare colleges for the major requirements and the graduation requirements.

alright thanks… @MYOS1634‌ what im getting from this is that its pretty pointless to spend 20k more a year on a college that is only marginally better than college park?

Currently i have a 3.53/4.18 GPA. and on practice tests score around a 2000 and 1350 cumulative(cr/m)

It depends whether your parents have the money in a college fund, or not…
Borrowing $20K more is not worth it, no.
But if your parents have it saved, or earn high salaries that they want to spend on you, yes, why not?
At this point, you should run the net price calculators and think in terms of value.

bump

without your having run the npc’s, OP, there’s nothing more to say.

npc’s?

I wondered upon reading this why you were so stressed… UMD-CP and UMD-BC are quite good state colleges, you have some decent and reasonably priced options that you will probably get into. Keep working on your test scores to improve your chances of admissions to the other schools on your list. but unless you want to pay more, your in-state schools are good choices.

OP, see #5 and #9. npc=net price calculator.

UMCP - low match
UMBC - safety
Mich - reach
Illinois - low reach
penn - safety
tech - safety

unfortunately… i dont think ill be reaching that 3.59 because im really struggling to get A’s in my classes like AP prog and chemistry. but hopefully i should get into UMD CP… every other day im having nervous breakdowns :((((
