What colleges should I be looking at ?

Hi,
I'm a 17 year old Indian Boy who doesn't know where to apply.
My gpa is about 3.4-3.5 and I live in New Jersey.
My school doesn't rank because it is very competitive.
On SAT 1 I received CR - 610 Math - 720 Writing - 590
On an older SAT2 Writing I received 650.
(I'm hoping I can retest and bump up the sat scores and take math2c)
I am extremely interested in Computers/Mathematics/Engineering.
I taught myself how to do many things such as Computers/Linux
I was in JHU CTY Programs for Algebra 1 and 2.
I've been in a summer noncredit programming class at Princeton.
I've taken Calculus and Physics at Columbia this summer.
My courseload this year will be Calc AB English 12 Physics French 2 AP Bio
I took one AP Class and scored a 3 on the Language Composition :(
I plan to take some computer certifications such as the A+ tests and
Soon I'll be taking Calc2 at a local community college.
My EC's:
3 Years of Stock Club (Club ended this year -- if it is revived I will be President)
1 Year of Theater
2 Years of Academy of Science (I am webmaster)
2 Years of Social Studies Forum (I am webmaster)
1 Year of National Honors Society (I am webmaster)
2 Years of ChemPhys Club (Competed in many events/volunteered)
2 Years of FBLA (I won top 15 in Nation in my event and 1st in State)
My friend and I started our own business selling video gaming servers for online play for people.
I have worked for various companies with large userbases in linux based systems.

I was wondering if someone could suggest a few colleges for me. I'm quite confused as to what i should look for. A few safeties/Matches/Reaches please. thanks.

Carnegie Mellon - REACH
Lafayette College - REACH
Harvey Mudd - REACH
Drexel University - SAFETY
Georgia Tech -Match/Safety
Virginia Tech - Match/Safety
Rutgers (in-state) - SAFETY
TCNJ (in-state) - SAFETY

With your not-so-stellar test scores and GPA, these are some of the schools that are applicable in my opinion. Big name schools like Caltech and MIT are essentially unattainable for you, but I suggest you research and find some schools like that are good in your intended area of study that you like that are within your grasp. Good Luck.

If I possibly could bump up the SAT Scores, do you think it would help?
I can put in the effort for a higher score.
Is there any other colleges close to New York that I might have a chance with?
Possibly Cooper Union or UMich or RIT or RPI?

Now Cooper Union is tough, coz as you probably know, it's a free school. Even if you get your SAT up, I think it'll still be a big reach...
On the other hand, with a higher SAT, UMich may be a possibility... I don't know.

Of schools close to NY, I think you can go for one of the SUNYs

GreenDay's list seems good to me, personally I'd consider TCNJ a match or even slight reach if you only have 3.4 or 3.5 and I'd consider Lafayette more of a match/reach, same with Georgia Tech.

Might also consider: Lehigh (reach), Stevens (match), NJIT (match/safety).

2331,

You are correct about the positioning of TCNJ, as it is no safety for those stats listed. TCNJ's current stats are very similar to Lafayette's and should be considered at the very least a match, most probably a reach for this student.

If the 3.4/3.5 GPA does not place nutz in the top 10-20%, this would be very probematic, as the SAT score only falls into the average area.

Worcester Poly would be something to look into. If your looking at urban schools I think Northeastern in Boston would be great for you. Your GPA and CR/Math scores are right in their range and Boston opens up such great career/co op opportunities. Also right acroos the street from Northeastern is Wentworth which would be a good safety school for you.

If I retest this coming year and do better on SAT1 (2100)
and get sat2 math2c and history and chemistry, will that significantly increase my chances? I have also taken on a tutoring job and have been able to take Calculus 2 at a local community college. (Also, would early decision to one of my reach schools increase my chances? Assuming money is not a problem)
