I have a 3.95 weighted and a superscore of a 30. I want to go into business and want to major in accounting. I am in a lot clubs and compete in DECA. I live in Georgia and want to go out of state. What colleges can I get into that have a good accounting program that can give me a path to a big four, and still not pay an arm and a leg? I am fine with colleges in the south, Midwest, northeast, and mid-Atlantic. Please help me!!!
You didn’t give that much info, but based on the act score, major choice and region preference, maybe consider these?: idk which ones will be reach, safety etc because idk that much about you
Boston College, Bentley, UIUC, Villanova, Emory, Wake Forest, Boston University, Babson
Do you want a big school or a smaller one? Also sorry I couldnt be more helpful regarding financial aid stuff.
I would prefer a big college with good sports. Most of the ones you listed I feel would be reaches.
^
You might not get into any of those schools with a 30. Not being mean, just a reality. If you get your scores at or
above 32 it would help.
There are some good schools in the south that have decent business programs. FSU, UF. UGA.
Up here in the north, UMass, Bryant, Bentley, UVM, Uconn all have decent business schools. Get an ACT of 32 or so and Northeastern. BU would work.
Does FSU actually have a good accounting program? And no offense taken thanks for the response.
Also do you know if any colleges that you listed offer a good amount of scholarships?
I went to FSU and my room mates were business and finance guys. They turned out fine. I think the business is actually decent there. Fun place to go to school too.
Lol both my parents went!!!
Do you know where most graduates end up right after college? My parents said mostly Atlanta and Tampa areas
You might qualify for some merit $$ at UMass, UConn, UVM, UNH etc. because you are out of state and have decent stats. Same with Bryant.
You need to target schools where your GPA and test scores are higher than normal for the school to get $$ . Good luck.
What about Bentley?
Your best price is often at an in-state public, so make sure you choose at least one as a safety. Georgia business schools, can probably launch you into internships in Atlanta.
When you say not an arm and a leg, that’s not a very clear budget. Have you had a money talk with your parents and do you know your EFC? Most large public university have sports plus business. The thing to do is make s list of state schools and start running net price calculators. Really the course content won’t vary between schools for accounting. You’re just looking for sports plus internship and new grad placement rates. Look for an accounting club on campus for networking.
I would say my target is 35,000 per year with scholarships already applied to that 35,000.
idk about financial aid cause im an international student and we dont qualify for many need based aids. But given the new info i can suggest Bentley (also very good), Umass Amherst, Babson (very very highly respected within the business and finance field - but its a small school), George Washington, Purdue, UNC chapel hill, fordham, tulane, michigan state, UGA
How much can your parents afford to pay without borrowing?
Miami of Ohio is recruited by all of the Big Four, but I’d feel better about your merit aid chances if you could get your ACT up a bit.
Bentley is a great business focused college. It’s really what they do. No problem getting a Big 4 position or many roles in finance. Your hook is being from the south. They have an excellent reputation in the northeast and internationally but somehow forgot to market domestically. They are trying to fix that and want to expand their reach south and west. You may find yourself in a merit scholarship position because of that. (S was offered a 50% tuition scholarship last yr 3.95 UW and 1410 / 31. He visited and interviewed so that probably helped too) .
However, to your other criteria - small school with small school sports (D2). I think their hockey is pretty exciting and they just built an arena on campus, but the football field (not stadium) seems more like a high school with bleachers. Other than that, incredible technology, great internship opportunities in and around Boston.
Clemson and South Carolina. You should get some merit aid from South Carolina.
In the following list of state universities, click-sort on the 4th-to-last column (showing out-of-state costs of attendance):

If your parents are able and willing to contribute $35K/year, then you might want to add up to ~$7500/year for “self help” (student loans, work-study, summer jobs) to get a total budget of $42,500. For that, Ohio State would be a little over budget (but look up their OOS merit scholarship opportunities). OOS public schools within budget would include:
University of Pittsburgh
University of Iowa
University of Florida
University of Alabama
University of Missouri
University of Oklahoma
University of Minnesota
University of Central Florida
etc.
So even without scholarship money, you may be able to afford many large state universities with strong sports and accounting programs. FWIW, US News ranks the University of Florida #11 among undergraduate accounting programs.
