What colleges should I look at? Please help.

I’m a junior and just starting my college search. I’ll be doing visits in April and need some suggestions. Here’s what I want in a school:
-good business program
-good sports teams/good school spirit
-in the northeast or midatlantic regions, plus Virginia
I have a 3.4 GPA (put in reaches too, please) and an 1800 on the PSAT, though that should improve greatly. What schools should I look at?

Most important factor: How much can you and your family afford? GPA of 3.4 currently will not get you Merit scholarships, so if you need financial aid, you need to start looking at colleges that will meet your need.
What is your home state? Best to start there since you will have advantages in cost and residency.

No SAT score, but you can plug your information into the Supermatch feature on this website with current GPA, projected SAT, mjaor and region of country to help on your search.

I live in CT, so naturally I’ve taken a look at UConn. Money isn’t really a huge issue so merit scholarships aren’t a priority. I just want a school that fits me

If you want an urban school, Temple might be a good fit.

Universty of Maryland or Penn State could be an option

Bryant

Have you considered the midwest? Like U Dayton or Butler?

Have you verified with your parents that they are willing to pay up to $65K/year for college?

$65K is a little steep, and I don’t really want to (nor could I get in to) the tiny liberal arts or extremely exclusive schools. For the schools in my score range, very few cost that much. Money can always become an issue, but in the range of schools I’m looking in it shouldn’t be

Not sure about sports(I have no idea why this is important, but okay…) but Indiana U has a good business undergraduate program. So does U of Alabama

If you get an 1800 SAT to go with your 3.4 GPA, there may be a few large merit scholarships available:

But there will likely be more if you get your GPA over 3.5 and get a higher SAT or ACT.

This is rather useless without your actual SAT score. Come back when that is known.

@fallenchemist‌ I realize the SAT score will help but I need to set up the college visits and I won’t have the scores by then

But you need SAT to apply yo colleges. What if you visited some schools, then take SAT , only to see that your score isnt really good enough?

I think getting decenT Sat score is more important right now.

You may want to do both the SAT and ACT in junior year. Some students do better on one compared to the other.

It is a little farther south than what you are looking at, but Elon University has a fantastic business program and D1 sports. It’s in North Carolina, near Greensboro, and there is a lot of school spirit and the campus is absolutely gorgeous.

I’d buy one or two good college guide books and start reading up on different schools. I like Fiske, Princeton Review, Insiders Guide but there are other good ones as well.

What was your PSAT score? It should be predictive of the minimum you’ll likely score on the SAT. Use that as a guide for the time being.

A lot of the schools being suggested are not in the region you requested. I’d suggest looking at the University of Delaware and Penn State IF your parents can afford $40,000+ a year. I’ve heard good things about George Mason and James Madison (both in VA) as well. Virginia Tech might be an option too.
